The best way to contribute would be to keep posts relevant, less OT posts & certainly less private chat ruining good threads.

Well said Shaker. You have to wonder why half the topics on this forum are written at all.

Now, now Gramps ;-))

I had a chuckle this morning when within the top 5 threads (in response time) were 'Quiet Night Tonight', 'The List Button', and 'Who Am I?'. Nothing particularly wrong with the topics, but all three threads contained more than 75% drivel LOL. There is such a thing as excess.... Maybe I should rephrase that: Is there such a thing as excess?

Shaker's opinion may seem extreme, but there are certainly a couple on here that are the other extreme. Personally, I like the Buddhist philosophy of 'the middle path' :-))) Out of those two extremes, one is in adherence to the 'terms and conditions of use' of the forum, and the other has a complete disregard for it. Not that I'm big on rules and regulations; I think people should do the right thing coming from a point of knowledge and respect and consideration for others, not because 'them's the rules'. For some neither works (talking life in general there).

Well, that's my rant for the day

Cheers,

Brian

Brian,

If the wannabe Forum Nazis don't like a thread/subject/post they don't have to read it. If the Moderators don't like it they can act and have at times.

It's always fun to read the rantings of the self righteous on this site.

Hmmm, but in general there is no indication of what a thread is like until you read it. So it has to be opened and read to find out that it is not worth reading, whether one is a forum nazi or not.

Rantings, views and opinions can atleast be interesting. But that's just my opinion haha.

Hi Steve,
Apart from the wealth of information available on this and many other related sites, one's own personal experiences and specific knowledge in different areas is always of value to someone some where.
Even tired overdone questions at times receive answers with a different slant from the usual.

OTs, humour, chit-chat and the occassional online stouch reveal the human side of this forum and its various personalities.

If you have a story........tell it.
If you have advice........give it.
If you have a query.......ask it.
If you have a tojo.........sell it....hehehe.

Cheers.....Lionel.

A poor show David – deleting "_gmd_pps"’s post.

Although presented in his, usual, arrogant style it was a valid response to this thread and raised some points many would agree with (especially Collyn Rivers and myself) along with some I would not.

A robust institution (which I though this forum had started to become in latter months) should be able to withstand criticism, even robust criticism, and not need to revert to censorship to stifle it.

The thread asks HOW DO YOU CONTRIBUTE TO THIS SITE, what part or his DRIBBLE was A: constructive or B: A contribution.

He waffled on about how bad this site is, and how inferior we are to use it, not one part of his attack on this site and it's users had a constructive piece of advice.

So if he thinks he is so superior to us and this site, he would have had the smarts to advise us and show us the error of our ways, in a professional manner.

Unfortunately that loud mouthed unintelligent spay he gave us, was exactly what I would expect from a troll, every other post I have read of his would suggest, that this is the case.

In my experience Steve; frequently the most accurate criticism is that which, at the time, we bitterly resent. In any event we should be strong enough to allow the world to judge us on our merits.

Oh… I think you’re anything but that Kim :)

gmd_pps made a post on this thread today highly critical of this forum – an arrogant (as is his wont) but rational attack, in fact it raised some issues a number of recent posts have also highlighted. The post has been deleted without explanation or acknowledgement.

I start to wonder if it is worth to take the time and effort to reply to posts if the moderator is so thin skinned and removes whatever he likes. If David prefers to have mindless people without an opinion on this forum only then i think it might be time to leave.
I really do not appreciate this kind of censorship. It might be appropriate in bloody Russia mate, but this is Australia!

Yeah, i do think that gmd_pps's post was a lot of self righteous dribble but believe we are all grown up enough to make up our own mind.
It just seems that a lot of threads are getting removed because the moderators don't like any kind of criticism. Very sad because this always has been a very enjoyable forum with diverse opinions and a lot of humour.

It seems the deletions are increasing as the critism increases. It is David's system and we have to respect his right to do this.

There are several other good Forums where freedom of speech still exists and many existing and former EO members can be found there.

Cheers

I have had many disagreements with many people on this forum, such is life.

Steve and I have butted heads on numerous occasions but I accept he is a very worthy contributor to this forum. He is just one example of worthy contributors that I differ with. Such is life.

gmd is a rude obnoxious prick who would be banned if it was my site. He serves no purpose.

Some interesting thoughts posted.

But I have to ask with a smile.

A Live Interactive forum?

Censorship?

I don't think they go together.

Must admit I'm feeling a bit misunderstood on that one..

You only need to have close look at my profile to begin to understand where I might be coming from re. "our collective freedom as Australians."

Oh and by the way I notice some "critical" posts are still there, - No obvious "trolling" so..

Thanks for all the insights guys.

Howdy Kerry,
i am the first one to admit that i do enjoy this site immensely and have met a lot of interesting people over the years. What baffles me a bit is that you felt the need to remove _gmd_pps"’s post. The blokes attitude and rudeness did speak for itself. I guess everyone realized what a dill he is. I thought you guys wouldn't have to worry about petty stuff like this. Deleting posts makes me feel uneasy. Maybe its caused by my origins and the absolute despise of censorship. Also I believe that the forum is so enjoyable because of the diversity of the posters. You said that over 1200 people were logged on this morning, which indicates to me that you have a pretty loyal network of members for obvious reasons.
I am not trying to tell you your job but the issues of thread deletions seems to bother not only me.
Cheers, Udo

Just remember that gmd was identified by his email address as having commercial interests in conflict to this site elsewhere.

Obviously his comments must be looked at within that context!!!
