G'day all

Have just returned from the Kimberley's 5 weeks of pleasure. 8,000 kms towing our Pioneer Camper trailer

Fuel consumption is around 6km / L at highway speed of around 100 - 105 kph (allowing for speedo error ex factory). Didint seem to improve much when slow 4x4 of road without camper...maybe a little less than 7)

Question to those with the same vehicle. How does that feul consumption compare...have any put a chip in? ( if so which one) or modified the exhaust? (if so what)

did anything positive happen that encourages me to do the same?

thanks all

6 litres per km

5 litres per km = 20 litres per 100km = $400 per 1000km ($2)
6 litres per km = 16.66 litres per 100km = $333 per 1000km ($2)
7 litres per km = 14.28 litres per 100km = $285 per 1000km ($2)

About 6 litre per km is about what I would expect towing.
No, I do not run a 70 series V8

I am hoping to get a 200 series and if I can tow at around 16 litres per 100km I'll be happy.

There! might make more sense now - sorry for that.

Sorry to disappoint Alan.

You can expect 19 l/100k best. 23 per at worst.

Whether it's the 70 or the 200, when those ponies are asked to work, they like to be fed.

cheers

I'm glad I ain't too scared to be lazy

I have d4d hilux n tow a 1100kg ct plus passengers n gear. Normally sit on 110-120kph sometimes more n get round 12-13lt per 100.
Thought the v8 would be idling n getting better consumption

Our whole fleet is changed over to V8's now and we are using more fuel then the turbo 6's. They are ok with a light load just cruising but start working them either towing or in the sand and the fuel economy goes through the roof.

My personal one has a Tiapan XP exhaust system and returns about 11.5L/100km with a moderate load on the highway.

Wish I had a TDV8....but FWIW... I'm averaging 16.4 l/100km with a TD 105 LC runing 33's, FULLY loaded towing a FULLY loaded camper weighing in at approx 1600kg at about 95 kmp/h.

My mate has a d4d hilux and gets 13 l/100km with a similar set up. My father in law with a new BT50, slip on camper is about 11.5 l/100

A recent comparo between the 200 TDV8 cruiser and the 3.0 CRDi patrol saw the V8 use less fuel. (no towing)

How much of the vehicles time will be spent towing a heavy load should be taken into account. Overall on a yearly cost basis the TDV8 seems to be a good thing, for those who can afford it.

CRDi 3.0 patrol here we come.
