I have a Sawtron UHF about 20 years old in working order and am considering upgrading before travelling Aust. in 3 weeks. What is the real value of a UHF considering I will be travelling on tar (mostly) and what UHF (5 watt) should I upgrade to?

Icom are bringing out a new model to match the latest GME in about 4 weeks,It has the buttons in the mike head also..
OR
GME
Either model you'll be on a winner,Although i hav x2 Icom 41S Handhelds..Gav another to mate this weekend because his GME was having issues...(Hence portability)
Cheers

As Warfer said, the new Icom could be ideal.
What it has over the GME is that the speaker will be in the mic, rather than in the head unit that you can have hidden away (ie mount anywhere convenient), with the new GME you either need the head unit somewhere you can still hear t, or add an external speaker and then find somewhere for it.

Hi Avan
So long as it works on up to channel 40, any decent brand will do the job. Wouldn't be without one.

The Sawtron 999 was a brilliant radio. If it's still working I'd just keep it.
Any particular reason to upgrade it?
If you are getting rid of it how much do you want for it....
