Morning everyone. All roads out of
Birdsville Open to 4WD Only - with Extreme Caution this morning. There is still water on the roads and creek crossings. The
Simpson Desert will be CLOSED for approximately one week.
Walkers Crossing is CLOSED due to very heavy rain on
Birdsville Track end.
Weather - still too warm, lots of beatles and insects last night. I still think the next front coming will go south of us, although forecast is for high cloud and patchy light rain later today.
As soon as anything changes I will post.
Simpson Desert travellers - don't be too despondent, things change very quickly (that goes for Walkers as
well).

Thanks for that to Ruth. Did you hear how much rain they got down towards
Innamincka? I see
Thargomindah has had about 50mm up until yesterday.
Cheers Bruce

Nick, it's a bit life farming. You buy the seed, hope like hell it's good seed, you plant, it rains and you hope for a 100% strike rate, then you hope for follow-up.
Biggest problem with the flowers (in the past) has been such a long dry that the soil profile was too dry, even with big rain - so hoping for a good strike and then flowers galore in about 4 - 6 weeks.

G'day Ruth
Was speaking with David Olsen (member & advertiser here) on
VKS737 Sunday nite.
He was at Mt Dare with 3 tag-a-longs, about to head East.
You may wanna keep a look out for them ??
Although if the Simpson was Closed before he got away- he might have aborted the Crossing !!
Cheers and we'll see ya mid-August...

I saw your report on Sunday (?) about speaking with David - can't imagine he would abandon a trip. Will call Justine tonight and see where he is. He may not be expecting to find us here - but will make sure Justine tells him. He usually has a turn around here with a spare day to r & r so will certainly look out for him.

No KIWI, the roads will be fine if your coming from the southern half of the continent. Regardless of conditions between now and the gathering, The roads from Qld for Sir Kev and Darkie will remain permanantly closed. He cant dip down south and try to come in the same way as us as he will be rejected as an alien immediately he tries to cross the border. Now that will make the week far more pleasant for you wont it. LOL

It would almost worth the price not to have him there. maybe he could just post you a bottle of Bundy and you could drink it on your own. I could help you out a bit if you needed help.

Did I write beatles when I meant beetles - what a laugh. Why should I worry - I'm the one who won the the ABC Radio
Longreach music competition two Tuesdays ago and won a double CD and DVD of One Hit Wonders from Countdown - and apart from The Ferrets I'd heard most of the groups. So there! It has been very peaceful while you were away.

I can see that branding iron aiming at a second butt at
Innamincka.
Better drag out those asbestos jocks, Willem.
I've got mine.

Just had a
satphone call from friends camping at
Farina.
They have been told that the
Birdsville Track north of Mungerannie is chopped up to blazes. Big job ahead for the maintenance people.

Stephen - do you have friends?
The
Birdsville Track is chopped up - because a number of people have been bogged in the middle of it for some days - with broken trailers and trailers with wheel bearings damaged and wheel nuts lost. It was also opened way too soon - Open to 4WD with Extreme Caution (usually means - no towing). Now I am able to tell you that the graders are ready to go on the section Mungerannie to
Birdsville border - very lucky! It will make for a good grade because there is moisture on the Track.
YOu still coming to
Innamincka because you and DD are 'in for it'?
