Hi, we have recently completed 112 days at the
Broadwater Tourist Park in
Southport on the
Gold Coast. There were many incidents involving petty and more serious theft. These included a tinny and outboard, two vehicles, eskies, keys, wallets, jewellery.
Security is difficult in this caravan park..as there is easy access for thieves from the beach, over fences and through the Coast guard jetty. Even if you think your annexe is secure, you must also lock your caravan door as they are cheeky enough to enter annexes and try the door and grope around for keys, wallets, cameras while you are asleep. We chained our portable BBQ to our wheel...and even locked the van especially in the evenings while using the
toilets and shower.
Cheers Gerard

You're a long way from
Joondalup, Gerry.
Makes you want to dish out some natural justice doesn't it?
Scumbags !!

yep..almost half way round Aussie now..had 20 months on the road and haven't had a bad experience...apart from a broken caravan leaf spring on that fabulous road called the Bruce Highway. Crikey it was rough in
places.
Can't speak highly enough of camps 4...especially in WA. NT and FNQ.

Mate, the reality is - that with the proliferation of drugs in our society, those with habits costing hundreds and even thousands of dollars per week don't 'earn' their money from hard work. Theft is their principal source. Yours,
mine anyone they can successfully target means they are just a bit closer to the next 'hit/score'. Until there is an overwhelming uprising from with communities DEMANDING increased levels of protection from law Enforcement Agencies, , ridding the streets of drugs (ALL forms/types) and more relaistic sentences from the Courts, it will just go on an on...........and on.

You don't need to demand more from Law Enforcement Agencies, they're as frustrated with the courts as anyone! but I get you point. Don't we all.

THIS is why i went with an Off road version pop top - and we NEVER go to caravan parks for this reason ---
we are usually camping a good 40 Min drive from any town - you need a 4x4 to get to where we are ... and there are usually No people there or No drive through traffic
The only real
hazard is people like the character from " Wolf creek" :)
I know its not for everyone -- but it certainly beats looking over your shoulder 24 hrs a day and worrying about your stuff when your on holiday

Gday,
I dont think there is any such thing as "petty" theft....
Theft is theft! I dont think it matters if its a plastic plate off your
camp table, or your car. A theif is a theif in my eyes and if they had there arms broken when they did it they might re think next time

Better still, Hairy, kill them at birth! Then they can't grow up to become pesky theifs. You can pick the likely troublemakers by their parents. They're the ones who advocate violence as a solution to social problems - rednecks with a middleclass lifestyle!

It seems I've touched a raw nerve with you, Andrew, given your only defense is to criticise the posting time. It might cause you to think beyond breaking people's arms as a solution to theft.

Piscesman,
Yeah...Good point.
All the counciling they do for these days seems to be doing the trick hey?
What if we increase the dole, or give them a drug allowance so the dont need to steal.
Even better we could give them
home delivery drugs so they dont need to go out.
Yeah thats the go!!
The poor buggers.
I think your idea of killing them at birth might be a bit harsh mate!
I would agree with droping them on their heads though.......Didnt hurt you too much did it?
Have you ever thought about being a politician? I reckon youve got what it takes.
Cheers

Good question Mike...I sometimes wondered it myself. Actually we are on a working holiday and it was convenient and close to our employment. Also..it is a prettycamp right on the Broadwater, met some lovely fellow campers.....but unforetunately easily accessable to scumbags
