I have a 2003 GU 3.0L patrol, bought a Dp chip for it on Friday and fitted it Friday night. Took approx 2 hours to fit and wire it in to ECU wiring harness which had to be soldered. A fairly simple wiring job except for attaching a connection to the wire on the injection pump ! and for anyone who knows the ZD30 motor the injection pump is almost near impossible to get to, so after much swearing and head scratching the job was completed.( although I don't like the scotch clip connection supplied to fit to the injection pump). Started the GU and off I went on a test run with the chip set on 5. I could not believe the difference that the chip made, has heaps of low down torque from 1500rpm and engine runs a lot smoother. Today I have been driving around with it set on 7 which I think is more suited as I have a 3inch exhaust which has complemented the chip. All in all I am very pleased with the Dp chip and wish I had bought one sooner !

Hi Jason,
I to have a 2003 GU 3lt it is a auto I have tried a detronic which showed considerable improvment on the dyno but I counld'nt really feel it on the road so I got rid of it an had a 2 3/4 exhaust fitted now that I did notice so then I tried the DP Chip with the exhaust on the dyno set on 5 power output was about the same as the detronic but the toque was a hell of lot more I to run mine on 7 with the bigger exhaust no change in fuel ecom, Was thinking of gas but still have another 2 yrs warranty it's easyer to take out the dp chip if I had to
Cheers Lyle

Hi Jason,
On an average around 320 / 370 which is not much different with or with out the chip, the highest it has gone was towing a 2 ton van up a fair sort of a hill gauge climbed to 525 but went it got to that it didn't go any higher and as soon as I topped the hill it dropped just as quick I have a digital EGT gauge fitted, it is fitted below the turbo as for the dyno with just the exhaust it run about 101hp at rear wheel with the chip on 7 around 118hp with about 1640 Lb Torque.
Detronic with standard exhaust 116 hp with only 1200 Lb
No improvement in fuel ecom with either.
Cheers Lyle

Jason, did you have the patrol tuned on the dyno after the chip was installed? if not i suggest you do before you start having trouble with it. Those chips must be callibrated via the dyno.
I am intrested in knowing Jason what horse power yours is producing as i was going to have a chip fitted to mine, but mechanic said not only has he never seen a standard 3 lt patrol ( 03 model ) produce as much horse as mine does but the DP chip will not make it run any better, further more my patrol without the chip is producing more horse power than most with the chip. the only thing i have changed is the exhaust which is now a 2.5 inch. my patrol is producing 120.6 hp on the rear wheels, most are reaching 125-126 hp after chip installation.

anyway have fun with yours i'm sure it will give you years of enjoyment.

DP chips don't need to be calibrated before use.

Hi Johnnymc, you wouldn't happen to have your torque figures for that dyno run, would be interested to see what they were.

Thanks
Jason

When i was running my DP Chip on 7 it just billowed smoke, just poured out tho i do not have an exhaust sytem fitted,my chip is set on 3,get a mate to follow behind you and see how much smoke may or may not be produced, the bigger exhaust may burn the excess fuel tho,no matter what setting on my chip there is no better fuel economy,i have a TD Hilux.Very high torque on 7,i would take my foot of the eccellerator on the freeway and the Hilux would pull up real quick.
