We are currently planning a trip to the Cape in Oct...starting with a camper trailer in
Cairns and heading off for 3 weeks to explore the Cape area, with our 2.5 year old daughter and another couple.
We have 2 fairly
well equipped Landcrusers and a few years 4WDing experience, but we have not been to the Cape before and would welcome any tips/advice/knowledge to help us get the most out of our trip.
Any advice on which route to take to get to the tip and back and/or the "hot spots" that are worth taking the time to visit would be greatly appreciated!!
Cheers.

Hi. 3 weeks to do the cape is never enough, but hey you have to start somewhere! Depends what you like and what you want to do as what to suggest, lots of sights and fishing to see and do. For an overall look I would head into
Cooktown for a visit, then take the road to Hopevale and turn off into Lakefield National Park on the Battlecamp Rd. There is a few camping spots in there on some lagoons. When you cross the
Laura River turn right up through Lakefield past the
ranger stations, more laggons/Rivers. At the top of Lakefield turn left back out to Musgrave Station. Turn Right at Musgrave and head for the tip, lots of
places and spots to see on the way. After Archer river turn right on to the Telegraph Track about 80k before
Weipa (see that another time). At Batavia Downs take the left branch on to the Old telegraph track and have some fun all the way up to the Ferry. Cross the
Jardine, go to
Bamaga and the tip. On the way lots to see and do, too much to print, speak to others you meet and all in all 3 weeks will be up before you know it. Regards Tony
