Gidday all,

We have just purchased a newish caravan and on it there is a different power plug on it (Car to Van plug). Instead of having the 7 pin plug that I am used to, it has a rectangular plug with two rows of pins, about 7 on each row. (one row of pins bigger than the other)

Does anyone have these and if so what are the advantages over the 7 pin. Is it worth keeping it and changing the car adapter or changing the plug on the van

Thanks in advance.

12 pin flat is what you have........no big advantage if you don't need any more wires than you already have....I used to have one on my old CT and the extra big pins were good for charging the CT batteries...

Check 1st, but they may have the fridge wires on the big pins ( won't matter if the car isn't set up to run the fridge ) or the onboard battery ( has it got one ? )

Mick

We have the same on our van, the large pin's are for (the 5 Pins )

battery charging
Direct line to van fridge
Earth return
Auxiliaries
Rear fog lamps.

I have combined the fridge and van battery line on the vehicle as they are supplied by the 2nd aux. battery in the vehicle.

Hey Big Al,

Thanks for the reply, what are the small plugs for and how do you power the electic brakes? Any advantage having this type of plug?

The large pins take a heaver guage wire.
The service brakes (blue wire) go to pin 5 on a 12 pin flat trailer socket

I have a 12 pin plug & use pins 8 to 12 for the camper trailer.I originally had a 7 pin plug but had trouble on the Plenty Highway when the trailer brakes & constant power wires decided to mate.

The smaller pins ,1 to 7 are used for blinkers, earth, stop lights & clearance lights.
Cheers.

This may be an obviously stoopud kweschun, but a 12 pin plug will fit a 7 pin socket won't it ?
