Just wondering how far above ground, mud flap extensions should be?
I have a GU Patrol. It’s had a 2-3” lift. Just doing rear flaps ATM.
thanks in anticipation, JD

AFAIK there is no maximum legal limit for mud flaps. To the contrary, the law states (afaik) that the bottom edge of mudflaps must be no more than 300mm from the ground.
However, if you make them too long so that they drag along the ground, they will throw up stones on gravel roads and be more trouble than they're worth.
My opinion is that they should be about 150mm to 200mm off the ground

JD
Just a short note to add to that.
If by chance you are setting up the full width ones, consider mounting them on a hinge, to the chassis. This will allow them to move, back and forward, as the situation allows.,and will actually help, just a little, in economy. And with the price of fuel every bit helps.
Cheers

thanks Bucky. Just extending (downwards) those on the vehicle for now. Depending how that goes might look at a larger one in the future. cheers JD

same as
mine.
just used some heavy duty rubber from clarkerubber, 4 bolts (with wing-nuts) & 2 pieces of aluminium.
whatever you use, try and put a chain on to stop you ripping them off when reversing into rough ground.
mine are easily removable also, with the wingnuts.

Howie, guess where my idea came from in the first place -
your post of 18 Feb 05
Made lots of sense.
Also, read full width one not the way to go - reasons make sense again.
I hadnt thought of the chain though - was just intending to remove extensions if necessary. Will get some chain instead. thanks for your advice. Cheers JD
