Pull the intake manifold off and clean the all crap out of it and the throttle body. After 40,000 mine had about half an inch of oily carbon resticting the airflow. After cleaning them out I was amazed at the throttle response that had returned. After that go and buy yourself a catch can (vented overflow tank) and run the crankcase breather from the top of your rocker cover into it instead of the intake.

I found that the exhaust from the EGR valve mixed with the oily residue from the breather and created a complete mess inside the intake, I'm not the only who has found this either. So my theory was take one cause of the problem away and that would fix it. I'd tell you to block off the EGR aswell (I never did), but that is a cause of some debate on this site.

Good luck mate,
Heefers

You can also try using Nulon Carbie & Throttle Body cleaner, I did my diesel turbos recently on some Cummins Diesels and it worked a treat. Nothing beats cleaning them manually off course.

Who said anything about fuel economy? Your statment was "Your only allowed to do 110 tops anyway..." which was corrected!

Turbo is the only way for some go out of the 2.8D's or the 3 litre. You can get some extractors and a 2 1/2 inch exhaust fitted but you wont gain that much maybe 5 k top speed. Know exactly what you mean. Yes the speed limit is 110 but it would nice to be able to sit on it even when approaching a hill or the slightest incline you have it flat to the boards almost all the time especially when running air con. 8 pound boost turbo and will run all day with out doing damage to your motor. One thing is to make sure the cooling system is 100% if you go down this track. Roughly around the 3 to 4g mark to have supplied and fitted. Ring Turboglide in Wollongong, very knowledgeable bloke been doing turbo's for 30 years plus. Regards Steve M

I've got a Lux 2000 3.0D EFI dual cab.

I'm gonna put my hand up for the possible bunny of the year and get an obscure un-named performance chip put in. I have been negotiating with him for quite sometime and there will be a pre-test run and then he'll put it in and then we'll take another run on the same roads, me driving of course, and if I like it then I'll pay him.n He reckons his chips, fully imported from UK from who he won't say, will be in lots of 4wd stores soon ... maybe maybe not.

Then I'll take it for a dyno test ($77 at Redcliffe) and post it up here.

The stats he posts for the Kw and torque increases are excellent and I'll get the same power as the factory turbo but less torque increase, and all for 1/4 of the cost of a turbo, although my torque will come in much earlier than an after market turbo. The turbo for the EFI engine is a more expensive option than the mechanically injected 3.0D, or so I have been told by the turbo installers.

I'm getting it in next week, and if I have time I'll get the dyno test done the same day.

Well, after i've made all the cleaning changes suggested above ....

and my other reason other than cost for not getting a turbo is that the factory turbo lux had a different, ie stronger, gearbox and clutch, so I didn't really on that basis want to fit something giving the same specs as the factory turbo with the gear to cope with it.

So he didnt say anything to you in regards to bigger exhaust to let it breath better ?? Will be very interested to see the results. Please keep us informed on what you think. Im a bit sceptic in regards to almost same output as a turbo BUT cant comment untill you give it a go. Hope all works ok for you. As you said if it works then a big saving Regards steve M

Ta, i have heeded yr advice, next step would be pacemaker exhaust for about $700 or so, Chip guy wanted me to fit 3 x hiclones and an aftermarket air filter. I didn't tell him what I thought of hiclones and I've followed lots of arguments about air filters and am convinced to stay with factory.

And don't get me wrong, just cause he sells Hiclones doesn't mean to me his misguided opinions carry to something else sells.

Anyhow, am gonna give it a go.
