Following on from Thread 58857 (Bucus), before buying an upgrade, I am interested to know other members' thoughts on various other makes of GPS.
I have an old Navman, and I am disappointed in some features. For example, if you depart from the plotted course, it does not offer ways of getting back on course. It also seems to not recognise many towns, and is nowhere near as user-friendly as the one I have in my car.
I realise it is one of the earliest on the market, but I want to be reassured that an upgrade is going to be worth the investment.

I have two in my troopy....a Magellan 600 with oz toppo city/ country ( which covers most of the land mass of Australia plus a host of other features....check it out on the webb....and being the size of a mobile phone, extremely portable for walking in unknown territory )....the other is a tom tom for all cities and towns of Australia....both very easy to use so I have all my bases covered...that's for me though.....some people want more ie laptop maps etc...others want less or none at all.....what are your needs/ wants is always the question you yourself can only answer and of course, what you are prepared to spend, but I am more interested in the trip, I'm not about gadget's

Check out this eBay seller: http://search.ebay.com.au/_W0QQsassZe.carparts

I now use one of their 4.3" units running iGO and OzieExplorerCE with Hema maps.

Wow must be really old my old Icn635 Navman always recalculated to get you back on track within seconds of missing a turn and also looked for shorter routes after overshooting only prob. was GPS signal. The new one I cant fault yet its an N60i works great and gets GPS always..

I traded my Navman Pin on the S80 , which has text to speech, and am very happy with it.
Easy to use and the spoken street names is invaluable.

Whatever brand u get make sure it has this feature.

Peter.
I recently bought a S80 on ebay. Great unit & even worked on Moreton Bay.The unit was in my wife's bag & showed where the ferry took us between the mainland & islands.
I hope it works as well as that next month when we travel out west.
Cheers.
