Before I start, the centre piece of this story is still alive.

Going back quite a few years ago, I was introduced to Yabba (not his true name). Yabba is the last of the wild fellas who built this country.

He worked on the Snowy Mountain scheme, pushed tracks into the High Country which you enjoy today, then headed up to the NT back in the 60's to put a few more in.

This fella is also a brute of a man, a devil and true blue bush character (give you the shirt off his back. but that's another story).

Yabba was never particular about his women, and never deemed a good night was had, until the pub was wrecked.

He finally settled down a bit with a shirla, although not all that much has changed.

A few of us decided to give him a visit. The day went well with a bit of banter and quiet drinks. Round about nightfall Yabba suggested we head into town for a counter meal. This is when the trouble started.

Three of us got in the car thinking Yabba and his missus would follow. As we were moving off, the door opened and Yabba said 'get the F.... out of here'.

Finally got to the pub and settled down with a drink. A couple of shirlas came in and, at a guess, one would have been in her eighties and the other pushing sixty.

Now Yabba has some interesting ways to attract a lady's interest.

Next thing we know, Yabba has pulled the boot off a fellas sitting with us, and tossed it at the women to get their attention. The cheeky buggar then got up and blamed the rest of us.

Few minutes went by with Yabba doing his amorous thing. Then his missus turned up, and all hell broke loose. She chased him around the table screaming bloody blue murder

Yabba headed for the nearest door, and so did the rest of us.

After a bit of discussion in another pub, we decided to go back and try to settle things down. Finally got back to their property thinking everything was right.

Bit of time went by, then Yabba's Missus started to whack him on the back of the head with the blunt end of a knife.

This broke the camels back and it was on for young and old. Doing the confusion they disappeared down the back paddock to slug it out.

Few minutes later they came back as 'happy as Larry' and sat down to play cards. Us fella's looked at each other in bewilderment then joined the game......

Next morning we woke up looking and feeling like mongrel dogs.

After a bit of breakfast we went out and hitched the boats up to the 4wd's. During the process a women came up and asked me if she could come along for a bit of fishing.

I mumbled some thing like 'we don't take shirlas in the boat'. She walked in a huff.

Yabba took exception to this. The words went something like this.....'you stupid %*&&# bastard, she's the richest woman in town..... that's no way to treat a shirla'.

LOL

Ah Kim... :)

That was before the Politically Correct people, the police, the courts and the Crimes Family Violence Act decided they knew the best way to make people's relationships work....

I hope that's still the case Richard but in my experience as a Relationship Counsellor I observed legal intervention in relationships do a lot more harm than good.
