Not everyones cuppa tea, so if not interested don't read!.

My wife is executor of a late relatives will, and has carried out instructions to the letter. Her solicitor has been great and has advised her on all relative matters in regard to the said estate.

Everything looked ok until to-day!, when she received a phone call to say the will has been contested. Without going into detail, it has been a wide awakening to us as to how people you think you can trust, can turn in the blink of an eye when it comes to money!!!. Laws have been changed in recent years so to all those trustworthy good people out there make sure your guard is up on the above mentioned issues.

Cheers Axle.

If you want to know a persons true character, put money into the equation!

Bugga dude.....
Doesen't sound like fun........ I was executor for my grandma 6 years ago...... All went to plan and alot said it wouldn't. I am still looking after a few dollars for minors. They will get the dollars in 9 years.
I really think it is an incredibly selfish act when somebody decides they deserve more than what has been left to them. I bet they probably don't need the money either?????
I really hope it goes smoothly for your family.

Hoo Axle....wot fun

Been there done that. Have files and files on Estate business.
On this one the Executors put hands in the till and misapropriated $200,000. Six years of dramas and the buggers got away with it!!!! Can't even trust the Legal System...lol

Luckily I have no money. All one could contest for is a battered Nissan and a clapped out computer....hahahahaha

Cheers

What was that old wise saying

Ah Yes
"Where there's a will there's a relative"

The wife and i have this all yet to come can't wait....the wills are all clearly drawn up but of course there will be some noses out of joint i can guarantee that.

Elderly relative in UK had money. The lady "looking after" her thought she'd look after herself at the same time. Will changed etc ..you can imagine the rest.
Luckily I wasn't in the slightest bit interested in that bunfight.

The easiest way not to have the hassles is not to leave anything behind except memories.
These days that's getting easier to do :(

I work in Aged Care.
My advice is:
Give away what you want to who you want while you can still remember who they are. Spend the rest on yourself.
Die penniless............or millions in debt!

G'day Axle,

Having spent over 37 years in banking I can tell you I have experienced some fairly disgusting events when it comes to death and wills.

Its all driven by GREED ! (I'm referring to people contesting wills)

I have seen families at each others throats over money left in wills and split them for ever. I agree with one of the comments that if your able to then distribute the majority of your assets whilst your still alive however, this still doesn't stop the family bickering or jealousy that someone got more than the other.

It really is sad that people can't stand on their own two feet and not have to rely on something they might be willed from another family member. You never had it in the first place.

I know its a pandora's box to start talking about this matter so I wont go any further.....LOL

Hope it all works out in the long run but just as a 'heads up' the law can sometimes be an ass too so don't be surprised at the outcome.

Cheers.

My aunty clearly stated in her will not to sell her house for 2 years after she passed away for personal reasons.

1 month after she passed away, a cousin demanded/contested for her part of the will (approx $8000).

Had to sell the house as to keep it my family would have had to buy the house outright(can't rember the exact details).

The cousin is by no means poor. Family has had a big falling out over it.

Too true what everyone else has said, you don't really know someone is like until you involve money.
