Hi, for those who've stayed in Port Stephens, what are the pros and cons of the caravan parks there? Thanks, Rob.

Hi Rob,
We thought that the caravan
park at
Fingal Bay &
shoal Bay were both excellent.

We stayed at the
Shoal Bay CVP earlier this year and thought it was an old over priced crappy CVP.
It has a narrow one way road system and as a result we had trouble manouvering a 19' van onto a site that was designed decades ago for when vans were smaller.
The fees were $29 per night for a powered site in the off season and the council needs to spend some money they charge and get the
park up to date.
Cheers,
Cruiser

Have stayed at
Jimmy's Beach Caravan Park in Hawks Nest as
well as Halifax Holiday
Park in
Nelson Bay. Halifax is right in town and has a very busy feel to it, and was kind of pricey if memory serves. It's right next to a nicer beach than Jimmy's Beach though.
Jimmy's Beach Caravan Park has more of a national
park style feel to it as it's very leafy.

One Mile Beach and Middle Rock Caravan Parks at Anna Bay used to be quite nice and a bit quieter than the parks in Nelson/
Shoal Bay.
There was also a quiet littel
park at
Boat Harbour years ago.
All these parks are a bit out of the main tourist areas, this can be good or bad depending on what you are planning to do while in Port Stephens. The Anna Bay area provides good access to
Stockton Beach if that is the point of your visit to the area.

Mungo Brush is nice, very quiet....
One Mile Beach
park is also very good.. I give the Port Stephens area a miss now, very goldcoasty with
parking meters everywhere....
Hawks Nest -Tea gardens is much nicer and catch the ferry across if you "need" to be in Port Stephens...
