Many years ago Steve I did a Tag-a-long tour near Coffs harbour following an Oka.

The operator had passengers in the vehicle and myself and one other family tagging along in our own vehicles.

I spoke to the Oka driver and he loved it, I spoke to passengers and they loved it, I spoke to the other guy in his own car and he was impressed, so was I.

I was looking at doing some work for a tour operator out of Broken Hill a few years ago and he had an Oka. It too seemed to do the job pretty well. The mechanic who did all his vehicle maitenance said the Oka was a good thing but it always required more extensive work after returnining from trips involving extended highway work than from trips involving more low speed off road work.

Feed it clean oil and clean fuel on a regular basis and it should be good. I hope it works out well for you.

"What do you think."
Hmmm.
Ugly!, worse aerodynamics than a brick.

But I guess that doesn't come into the equation at all, does it!
Hope it performs as expected (or even better!)
Cheers

Steve, I trust you did your homework before you bought it. My impression is that the transmission has problems in the early ones.
Despite this they are an impressive people mover in remote areas. I'd love to buy a later model and kit it out, but too exe.
Best of luck with it.

Hey Footy

It has a new Transfer case and a spare G/Box, It did what I wanted it to do in the test drive, not only that, it has been sitting in my front yard for two years.

It's not a bad truck at all.

Cheers Steve.

Hey Andrew.

How's things ?

How do you know Sab ?

Sab and I have been mates for 15+ years, in fact it was a part of Sab's company that I bought, he has been great with all the help he has given us since we bought the business, I know the history of the truck and if Sab didn't think it would do me justice he wouldn't have sold it to me.

It will only be driven by me so with some TLC it should do me fine, if not I have something to trade on a new Isuzu later.

Cheers Steve.

LOL Steve - you introduced me to Sab and I refer folks to him from time to time. Nice guy who has been a great help to me too. Thanks.

I've come across expensive repairs on two different Okas - one lost 1st gear in the Simpson, and another that ended up driving through mud from Mt. Dare to Alice - all sorts of things went wrong. Leaking diffs, drowned (dead) compressor for air-step as I recall were amongst them.

I'm sure you'll not find parts as easy as for the 100s.

Every Oka has an individual number - from memory a 3-digit number.

good luck with beake rotors, uni joints, starter motors and wiring to lights, rusting btween panels(doors and side) and of course the air compressor that raises the step! used to do the maintenance for a travel co. had great fun around midnights rebuilding and r/r starters etc in time for the next days tours.

Niceeeee, very nice.

I beleive there is a oka dealership of some sort in Kalgoorlie that have maintained a register of as many Oka's sold and traded and sold again, keeping track of their movements and important info.. I remember reading about this in an offroad magazine, just cant for the life of me remember who though.

Good luck with it, Im extremely envious!!

Congrats Steve!
I never had the pleasure to drive one myself but know a few people who did and rave on about them. The only other truck in the same league would be the German Mercedes Benz Unimog but this beast is just out of the reach of mere mortals i am afraid.
Hope you get a great run out of the Oka mate.

Cheers, Udo

4 cyl, 4 litre Perkins. You notice the hills before they come into view though.
But they are really comfortable with the long wheelbase.
Steve, see if you can get some of the later model wheels, you will get much better mileage out of them.
Keep an eye on the UJ's and yokes.
The OKA on the right is the last OKA they made as far as I know.
1998 model I think.

I used to drive them for a tour company and they were easily the most comfortable and capable off road. A couple of sleeping bags over the engine hump between the front seats cut out the noise and heat.Use synthetic oil in the g/box and transfer and modify the filler to increase oil volume a little and the driveline problems nearly disappear. As an owner/driver it should be a good bus for you and your pax.
Good luck
