Hi all,
Living here in Perth, South of the river (Rockingham).. i thought it would be quite simple to find a manufacturer of heavy duty roof baskets for our 100s, but this is proving to become harder than i thought.
We are looking for the max space the roof can take with a ladder,
Auto1 has them and they have quoted $1600 fitted but $300 extra for the ladder.
would anyone know if this sounds like a good deal, or should i keep looking round?

Any feedback would be great.
Cheers :-)

I agree with the Jarrams suggestion, they make top quality gear and offer good service.

A happy customer.

Find out how much Toyota says you can carry on the roof before buying anything. It isn't much and any strong roofrack will take up aproprtion of that.
As the roof rack mounts to the turret direct rather than the gutters where it can distribute the weight onto the sides there are weight limits.
There are plenty of 100 series that have developed water leaks after the turret has cracked due to roof loads.
A stiff/strong roof rack will increase the risk of cracking as it will not flex with the body. A series of rails with a seperate basket might be better than a one piece unit.

Never sure what people actually mean when they specify heavy duty as Toyota actually specify the limits up top. I have an Ironman Roof cage like ARB but with a heavy support frame and mesh floor. It has mounting for spare at the front too. Have to take a photo of Kath's new look I guess

have a tracklander on my hundred.(alloy, lighter than steel)
think from memory it was around 1400 fitted plus the ladder was around 250 ( removable not fixed). 4X4 specialists Busselton (ARB) did the deal! . are these what auto 1 are selling ?

shop around, and also try second hand!!!
Despite the cost of living, have you noticed how popular it remains!

The best 2 racks I have used and seen are the Tracklander already mentioned (I have one on my 100 series) and one called a "TopDeck" which is made and sold by Endee Metals on Beechboro Rd, Bayswater, WA.

$1600 sounds expensive to me.

I had a top deck on my 97 disco. did the csr, cape york, mitchell falls and heaps of other trips and was great. No cracks developed at all. Was very happy with it. It was never heavily loaded though.
