Hi All,
I am finally, after six years of deliberation, going to have my petrol 80 series converted to LPG.
My problem is choosing whether to go for an older style fumigation gas system or the newer injection systems. Injection systems seem to be about $2000 more expensive, does anyone have any thoughts either way if it's worth it. Through improved performance and avoiding backfires. Alternatively is the older system better as it's much less complex and I like things nice and simple like me!
Engine is 1FZ-FE, 4.5L 1994 and it already has an oxygen sensor.
I'm sure I've seen posts on this in the past but can't find them.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts.
Chris

The 80 series we had was on lpg and it was the older system....I think it was about 4 yrs old...so now it would be 7 yrs old.....so I assume it the "simpler version".......
it was good...just had to have car tuned to lpg.

My 1995 GXL 80 series has no oxygen sensor as these were deleted @ begining of 1995 . I have ordinary Impco system get 26l/100km.Spare tyre is on roof rack.

Had my fitted in 2005 with 112 lt. gas
tank but only 90 lt. usable .... it run very good, no problem with backfires at all!
I have to place the spare tyre on roof rack but so far ... no punctures! The system is an "older style" impco system, Found overall very good but here in K.I. the gas is too expensive (0.99 cents/litre) so I'm running my car on petrol .... shame isn't??
I'm running on gas only in
Adelaide .....
The economy on gas is 30lt/100 km I knok, my right foot is very heavy !!
I have also a big roofrack, A/T tyres and 2" lift ....

Chris,
I have a 95 cruiser bought new, converted to LPG at about 70k. I have the Impco 'older' system and have never had any backfires althought the converter diapraghm (rubber) split once and had to be replaced ($180).
I have never had any issues with running LPG however I always make sure to run the car on petrol until it's warm, then change to lpg and always end the day on petrol.
Car now has 280k on it and still going strong. Make sure you install a flashlube system as
well.
Economy is about 4-5km per litre on lpg round town and better on highway.
They say that valve adjustment period is halved when running lpg but as I do not run straight lpg I get away with adjustments every 60-70k.
It's worth it

02 9728 1977 Jaimie
he did
mine and i have never had an ounce of trouble. running at 20lt/100km (filled it tonite 60 litres for 300 kms - made the calculation pretty easy hey! couldnt have planned it that way if i wanted to)
Jamie wont give you BS and wont make you spend more than you need to. he now does all my service work etc on my cars and saves me money compared to what it use to cost me. even gives me a loan car too. good luck with it, cheers MICK

Hi Mick,
thanks for that, are you running the injection system?
I'm actually in
Adelaide so perhaps a long way to travel to get the work done. Do you think he would mind a phone call anyway?
Cheers,
Chris

Chris
Jamie is really approachable so i am sure he would not mind the phone call. he wouldnt even know where you were actually calling from. he now has a 3 month wait to get it done as he is popular.
my car actually a 2000 petrol prado but he will (i think) freely give advice over the phone. just tell him you are wanting info to help you make up your mind before you will decide if you want to go ahead. ask him the options and prices available for your particular vehicle. good luck mick

Hi Mick,
I rang Jamie and he was very helpful. He said the standard Landcruiser kits rarely backfire especially if you make sure the leads and plugs are in good condition and the injection kit isn't really worth the extra dollars.
Thanks again everyone for the advice.
