Optus has made an agreement with Thuraya and should be releasing them in about 6 month.

We have an Optus satellite phone and when I was talking to the Optus Mobilesat people (all two of them) they said the current B2 Mobilesat system was going to be scaled down from 2017 and Optus only had 50 new sat phones left (Optus brought the NEC satellite phone manufacturing business about 5 years ago from NEC).

The girl at Mobilesat said the Thutaya system will be the new system Optus would be offering new customers.

She said the phone is fantastic.

Just had a look at the ACMA carrier declarations 2007 – 2008 and it says:-
