Planning to complete our next trip in August from
Brisbane,
Innamincka, Flnders Ranges,
Birdsville,
Longreach returning via
Carnarvon Gorge. Does anyone know whether Warremba Farm Stay (near
Carnarvon Gorge) is still open/operating. We tried to phone but number we have is either incorrect or disconnected.

Hi Wayne & Cheryl
It looks as though that is correct. If you go to the website www.warrembafarmstay.com.au - an error message comes up, so guess that says it all. What a shame, as it was a nice pleasant spot, had some cabins as
well as powered sites, also a very good campers kitchen and lounge area. We stayed in 2005, left our caravan there, whilst we went into
the Gorge for five days. Like lots of
places, they come and they go! You could try
Emerald or
Roma Tourist Information Centres, they may have more details etc.
If it has closed, why not try in
the Gorge itself, Takarakka is a great spot for camping/or caravans and the Lodge is very nice too. We stayed there as a treat to ourselves! so could be a nice treat for you both on the homeward stretch, however, it is expensive. The tented accommodation is very good.
Hope you have some luck.

Thanks Jinki. Thought that it might have been the case. Looks like we will be looking at Takarakka. There will be three camper trailers in our group when we get back to there. Will check though with the Tourist info Centres.

Hi Wayne & Cheryl
We've just visited
Carnarvon Gorge 2 days ago. Stopped overnight on the road about 16km in from the main road at a
memorial to the USAF. Then went into
the gorge for the day and did a 10km walk and back to
camp on the road.

Thanks Stevo
Looks like Takarakka has a captive audience now. That is why they are quite pricey for
camping I guess. Will have to save on all the
bush camping we do for the rest of the trip.

Last year we stayed in
the Gorge camping area and it was great. You need to book through epa qld but the facilities and atmosphere are great.Just national
park fees and $1 hot showers. You are right in the action there. We had 2 camper trailers and no problems. There is about 20kms dirt but you have to go that road to get to Takarakka anyway.

I believe the National
Park camping area is only open during school holidays. Rest of the time its Takarakka. We stayed there three weeks ago. It $35 per night. Good
park. Book ahead as it gets very busy.
We took three days to see all the sights. The walk to the end of
the Gorge is 21k return. If you don't have time then you still need to walk about 14k to see most sights.

just planning a 7 day trek up that way to escape the Ekka in August (if we're out of town the kids can't whine to go! much rather spend that money of fuel... lol) are there any 4x4 tracks/adventures to be found? Husband will need some adventure before I make him take me to
Sapphire and buy gems... :)
