Just drove home with the new conversion.... 1Hz cruiser...
Subjectively: Seems to have much more 'pick-up' and torque....
But you always look for something different, better when you pay out big bucks, to justify...
Objectively: Corners that I would have to drop down to second gear to get around I easily cruised around in third. Before the gas, I'd 'lump' around them, revs dropping noticeably.... nice!
Two hills I know
well on the way home really showed up a difference. The first I need to drop to 3rd about half way up.... no third. I entered in fifth and dropped back to fourth with nice revs all the way up...
Then.. there's POWER'S
HILL! Most of the way up in 4th, and may have made it up, but revs were dropping too far. 3rd revved right up past 3,500... couldn't do that before, not just my impression.
So... I'm happy so far.
Over the nex few days, I'll work out economy, good or bad. and I'll switch off the gas a few times to confirm the above!
Cheers Royce.

HI Royce,
I may have missed earlier discussion but what brand of system did you install and why did you chose that brand?
Cheers,
Glen

Now this might be a staggering admission, but, I don't know what brand I had installed!
I'll check up tomorrow in the daylight...
The way I went about deciding, was by checking websites and looking for suppliers of any diesel/gas conversions.... then I went about phoning the ones within range of where I live.
I made notes, on firstly COST and then on any other details given by the person on the other end of the line.... THEN about the fourth business I called, came up with a price lower than the others and extremely friendly happy people on the other end of the line....
So much so, that I thought I'd go in person and have a chat to them... I noticed the clean workshop, the enthusiastic father, mother son business and the many customers coming and going.
and as it happens, a customer with a new conversion was taking delivery. It was the same motor and the work looked very tidy. They swarmed over my different and special rig, didn't look down their noses at the shambles in the back and came up with plans on how to fit the
tank and filler... and I decided that I would trust them.
Price: $3400 less the $2000 rebate.

Excellent, keep us posted on the results. Really is something i am considering if it proves its reliable and economical. Plus the power bonus is always welcome witht the old 1HZ. Around about how much does a kit cost?

Royce,
You may need to adjust the settings to get optimum benefit. I think I've just about got
mine right now. Took a few tanks of fuel to get it right. At first I was burning far too much gas and have eliminated that now, although still not quite as frugal as they claim. As I've said before on here, I can
well believe the 30% improvement in power (I'll find out when I put the Defender back in to Graeme Cooper) At first, thought I was getting about a 12% improvement in economy, although when you take into account that some of that is gas at about @ 35/40% the price of diesel it worked out at about 17% improvement in the hip pocket. Now, with further twidling, I reckon I'm definitely over 20% more economical. Some smart-ar$e came on here saying go easy on the right foot but it's not as straightforward as that, because one of the reasons I had it done was to get more power and you definitely use it going up hills, particularly towing. There is, of course some correlation in that but it depends. Sometimes you need the power - other times you may want to go easy on the fuel. Whatever, overall it's a big oimprovement.
Mine was EcoShot btw.

I think my last figs were 7.9 L/100 diesel and 1.7l/100lpg which was my best yet. Fairly easy driving though. The diesel always has been good at around 8.2 but the lpg has been way up. I reckon typically it'll be around 8L/100 diesel and 2L/100 gas. The big black cloud of smoke n start up is getting less and less too.
