Well I like the idea of a new toy, with my new (actually quite old now) diesel I'll be doing a lot of oil changes and who can't get theiur hands oiled doing an oil change? here might be a way out. The Fumoto.

I asked about branches and stuff clipping it, he said unlikely as a two stage opening. Can also put on a wire thingo to lock it one more step.

They got 30% off the price now so I bought it online. Arrived in the mail the next day. I love it, may not even put it on the lux, may just play with it, really cool, so many dimensions ... it opens, closes, springs, seals, hole opens, clicks ....

If you don't know the fumoto is that thing you can replace your sump nut with.

and no i have no connection with them whasoever.

Yeh, I have one of these on the Chevvy donk and I reckon it's great. It sits up so high and behind so much other hardware (front axle, steering arms, sway bar etc), that I cannot envisage anything ever getting into exactly the right position to perform the 2-action motion required to open the valve accidently.

I got the version with the outlet nipple on it which allows a hose to be plugged on when doing a oil change. Because I want to also be able to take a small oil sample (for analysis purposes), I have fitted a very short length of hose with a bolt in the other end (total length about 35mm). This means that the inside of the valve opening does not get any crap lodging in there (dust etc) and the sample I take will be clean>

If there is one downside, it would be that the oil doesn't drain as quickly due to the smaller opening. However, on the plus side, you can drop the oil out of a very hot motor, without the risk of scalding yourself as would be the case with a conventional plug removal.

I also have one fitted to my GU III 3.0L patrol, works great makes oil changes a breaze not that it was hard before. Have had it on for 3 months and has not come unlocked, don't think it will with the two stage locking system. What a great invention and yet a simple design and very prompt service from Fumoto !
