Gidday Steve

Not quite sure what your refering to. The Dig Tree is a bit north of Innamincka and no ford accross the Cooper.

Regards

The bridge across the Cooper at Nappa Merrie was built in about 1992. Prior to then, we used to drive through the creek at "the ford". Sometime since then "the ford" got closed off.

Steve.
Many years ago you could drive across the cooper about 1k east of the dig tree but last time I was there some one had driven a couple of star posts into the track. I suppose they don't want people to go in without paying there $10. Eric.

It seems that all over Australia's outback, local knowledge is often a treasured secret - I can think of many reasons for that, but .........
via Googe Earth confirmation, I recall 10 years ago turning left from the Nappa Merrie track east of Innamincka, scooting over a stony Cooper bed and swinging around into the Dig Tree precinct - easy to ID on G earth.... seems to be well used tracks all these years later ..... funny that eh ?

Dig Tree Ford

141° 4'53.24"E

Turn left off the NM road at

We were at the Dig Tree about a month ago. It is a fantastic place to visit and camp. There is water in the Cooper at this point and had plenty of bird life and some fish. It was dusty and devoid of grass but the flies left us alone. The sunsets were beautiiful and the nighs were chilly. We had no problem getting there and there was no ford crossing hassles.
When you camp there, remember to see Bomber Thompson and get some of his history talk.

I ,Like your last reply was out that way about a month back and yes the Cooper has water in it. There is a bridge that crosses the Cooper named the Burke & Wills bridge so no need for fording near the dig tree.
The crossing at Innaminka did not have any water over it neither so It looks like you might miss out on any water xíngs.
If you are planning to camp on the Cooper near Innaminka be sure to spend a couple of days as it is quite spectacular.
The bird life is amazing, watching the day turn into night out that part of the world really has no words that can describe it. You do really need to spend some time when you camp along the Cooper.
Have a great trip.

G'day all - Can't speak for right now at the dig tree, but just over 2 weeks ago when we were at innamicka, all roads were closed due to the severe flooding and 4 m high rivers. We've since travelled down the stezlecki, up the birdsville and now just outside diamantina national park. There is still water everywhere in the region.

So, I'd assume the roads are open down there by now, and would absolultely assume there is plenty of water around. Evene the road out to big red from birdsville this time last week had 6 or more "river" crossings on it!!
Cheers.
