Hi,

We are looking at undertaking Googs Track in SA later in the year, and have heard conflicting reports in relation to which way to travel it (north to south or south to north)

Anyone travelled this recently and could give descriptions of what the track is like, and what is the best way to do it, etc?

Many thanks.

C. H.

Though northbound is encouraged by Parks and the locals for reduced conflict on the skinny track, either direction is quite ok - we were southbound quite a few years back and glad of it - on the three or so proper sandhills at the top end, inexperienced (probably) northbound travellers with tight tyres had been burrowing holes in the dune faces, trying to get up (they probably didn't have compressors for reinflation). Going the other way, we just sailed down over those holes - further northbound travellers would probably have had issues getting up there without doing further damage.... only takes one to start it all. Anyway, thats sand driving - happens anywhere.

Mate,
Did it last year from south to north and as the others here and in other spots on this site have said, is rutted out on the approach. Doing it again in August and will be going North to South, a smoother ride guaranteed.
