Does anyone know of an aftermarket fuel consumption computer for a Nissan Diesel?
I am looking for something that will calculate fuel used etc.

Scanguage seems to be very popular and reasonably priced.

Scangauge will do what you want for sure BUT

check that your model Nissan uses the OBD11 protocol

I have a Nissan Patrol built in Dec 2004 and Scangauge cannot talk to it.

Is the 2007 Nissan 3L turbo diesel compatable with the OBD11 protocol?

Check out this website

Scangauge11 Vehicle Compatibility list

BUT

It is American based and the yanks have had (by law) to ensure that vehicles SOLD in the States are OBD11 compliant from a cetain date forward.

Some model vehicles we have here in Oz are not sold in the states therefore Scangauge11 may not work

my 2004 Nissan is an example.

It 'should' work according to the list BUT it doesnt

Suggest you contact Wooders and ask if it is compatible

Wigger

I don't know for sure - as I have said in my earl;ier post - I have purchsed one but it doesnt work in my Nissan

I do know in the setup you put in the size of your tank (in Lts) so I guess it is just using simple maths

I do know the unit is taking data from the ODB11 port so it would be utilising that data

Perhaps someone who is more knowldegeable on this tha I can respond

Navman and Floscan also make fuel usage systems. I have used the Navman, excellent system. If you have a GPS with NMEA interface, both systems can interface with it.

Dunaruna

Could you please give me a brief run down on how the GPS/NMEA calculates fuel useage

I assume it only does this whilst the puter is running?

Both Navman and Floscan use a transducer in the fuel line that communicates with a processor, it measure actual fuel flow and the processor makes the necessary calculations regarding time/flow/usage etc. The information is then displayed on a screen, it can be a stand alone screen or your GPS or any other screen device that has NMEA. The information is extensive - litres per hr, litres per 100km, fuel used, fuel remaining, estimated fuel usage for trip etc etc.

Both these products were primarily designed for the marine market which did not take into account fuel return systems (which most cars have). I'm not sure if the newer versions compensate for this.
