Hi again
Well I have today pulled the autotune off the car. I checked the small earth from inside the tuner to the base plate, that looked ok. I replaced the large braided earth strap from the base plate to the vehicle. I think the earth is good as when I test with a multimeter from the base plate to the vehicle I get continuity (hope I am doing that right?)
I even changed the antenna to a brand new stainless (which I needed to purchase anyway)
Still have the same issue, tune fails. On some occassions you can hear the tuner doing its thing and trying to tune, on others it just fails immediately.
Any suggestion as to where to look next or is it now a case of taking the autotune down to someone like Terry at Terlin to see what he can do with it?
Thanks

which model radio do u have I had same prob with a NGT and it needed to be changed in the settings to be set to use CODAN INTERFACE.
Also which plate did u earth as only the top and bottom one acually do so. The earth strap needs to be attached to the top one and braced?? by a screw into the middle one

Graham
Its an NGT. Has been working perfectly
well for the past 3 1/2 years, until one day when it just refused to tune any more.
The new earth braid I have is connected to the top plate, but does not have the same connector as the previous one to enable me to connect it to the bottom plate also. Do you think this could be part of the problem perhaps?

Check the connector between the stepper motor and tuning slug.
It could be plastic and broken.
see here
With thanks to Ben

Stu
I have looked at that page, and just dont know if I am game enough to p[ull the tuner apart like they have. I would be worried about stuffing something up if I do.

I had a discussion some time ago with the Owner of the company which manufactures/assembles the autotune antennas for Codan. My understanding is that they are pressure filled with a neutral gas during assembly to prevent any condensation forming inside the antenna. Makes sense to me. Not sure how you would recreate this after you pulled the thing apart.

Richard,
It is pretty simple if you follow Ben's instructions.
I got one going that was not worth repairing according to the service agent.

I had this problem on a trip through Outback Qld last year. Started as an intermittent fault and then got worse.
Eventually tracked it to the screw connector which connects the antenna to the main control box (the big one). turns out that the inner core of the coax was not soldered to the center pin of the connector. Soldered this and haven't had a problem since.
Hope this might be of help

Richard,
See my post in the 'other' thread...
Pulling the antenn apart isn't that hard. The instructions on the oz radio site are quite specific and easy to follow.
Cheers,
Mark

I also had a 9350 that wouldn't tune,so I took it to an ex-codan radio tech. I watched as he disassembled it and washed the moving parts with metho and then put it back together (with a few new seals). It then worked perfectly.
