Brian.......

I cant understand what motivated you to post these tragic photos..........a man was killed (fell asleep at the wheel is the story circulating locally).........so you title it "weekend warriors"?

I hope you never experience losing someone close in an accident and have someone post insensitive and tasteless pics as you have done!!!!!........how are his friends and family going to feel having this reminder in their face???????

The poor driver is not known to me......but looking at the pics makes me sick in the guts.I drove past the scene yesterday and they were still cleaning up the site (4 days later).......that was bad enough and I post this to castigate you for doing what you have done

hang your head in shame...the owners of this site should pull the post

Hi Bungarra, i understand how you feel, but i feel, as a heavy vehicle operator, more photos of not very nice scenes like this should be posted for all to see. We have spoken in past threads about speed cameras, flashing lights to warn, poor road conditions, and all the conditions that go into causes of these, what ever you want to call them. We have very grafic photos on cigerete packettes, and now trying for beer cartons. I as a driver have quite jobs because companys have put unreasonable hours on me, i also have pulled up and slept and not met my timetable, because i new i was not safe to be driving 45Tonnes. I lost my job but i am not in the photos your not comfortable with, its all about education and photos are part of that process. Col

Sorry Guys, but I agree with Col.

Education is the answer, not ignorance.

I feel for the family, and after years in a rescue squad, I know what these scenes are like first hand.

If these pictures save just one life thru education, then his death meant something to others, not just his family.

I don't see nothing wrong with this post, yes the driver did die.

If nobody mentioned he died we would of not known any different.

Why don't we stop discussing death and accidents all together and live a sheltered life.

Perhaps the media outlets should stop it to.

So why remove this post.

Too many huggy huggy touchy touchy goody to shoes in this world.

He did not make fun of the accident.

so we should take all the memorials of the side of the road showiing where single car accidents have occured and people (mainly ) young have lost all thats best. Looking at the photos which dont show all but look like a straight road, doesnt say much for the driver, but on the other hand maybe the company was pushing to hard, makes you think while your driving Col

A 'head in the sand' attitude will not address the basic problems of road safety. It's a dangerous world out there on the roads and the more discussion and attention it gets the better for everyone ! More and more these days it is public attention that gets changes made if change is needed, hushing things up get's nowhere.

I found the photos disturbing, but certainly not ghoulish. You'll see far worse on the evening news or in the newspaper.

I think they serve as a timely reminder to us all, for all the reasons mentioned above.

If it was my son driving that truck I'd be happy (not saying I'd enjoy it) to see such photos posted in the hope that it may save someone else's son in the future.

Just my thoughts on a very sensitive issue.

Jim.

bungarra, I have lost two children (20 and 18) and their close friend in a car accident, and I can say that its not seeing the wrecked vehicle that made me sad or upset, in fact I wanted to see the vehicle, dealing with pics of the wreck are the least of ones worries in such a time of shock and sadness.

Just remember that its YOUR reaction to the photo's that drove you to reply as such and no-one else's, one of the greatest pains I still have is that people THINK they know what I am feeling and the simple fact is that they cant, all they can do is be there and say gidday.

I am not berating you and don't mean to, but even given what I have gone thru I don't have the same reaction to these pics that you did. I hope thats something to think about.

Cani please ask you to request the administrators remove this post. This tragedy will be the subject of a coronial inquiry and the poor mans family are going to go through enough, without the scenes here splashed across the nation.
If only for their sake, please help them as this traumatic time.

As tragic as it is, I doubt the family of the deceased are EO forum readers/contributors and, as such, are unlikely to ever read this thread.

It DOES serve as a timely reminder that none of us is immortal and that we all can suffer the same fate.

If the post had've included photos of the deceased driver or even the remnants of a bloody-spattered cab etc, then yes, I would agree that that level of publicity is not warranted.

As it stands, the photos show that even a mighty prime mover can and will become a crumpled mess during a accident.

RIP the driver and my sympathies to the family and friends.

Roachie

In queensland they display cars that were involved in major traffic accidents out the front of Police stations for all to see, including large signs. These photos though disturbing are a reminder of what can happen. I see no problems with the photos. I saw worse photos of my sister in laws death outside Townsville in the Townsville Bulletin years ago. Regards Tony

While many of you may find these photos unpalatable and feel it inappropriate for them to be posted, I firmly sit in the camp that says 'leave them up'.

Seeing the results of car accidents is shocking.
But I'd suggest it is necessary for people to see just how easily vehicles can turn in to scrap metal, particularly new cars.

I am part of a crew who occasionally undertake rescue duties. The younger members particularly curb any hoon tendencies pretty smartly on seeing how easily cars peel apart. It ALWAYS surprises me just how much a car will disintegrate.

Take a good hard look folks. And put some thought in to how easily we can come to grief, whether through our own brief lapse of someone else's fault. It's far too easy, and the consequences are awful.

Do we know if the family were advised of this fatality before the pictures were posted here?
While I have no issues with a free and open forum, I just wonder if that check was done first, or was it just "assumed" they must know?

Who can speak with certainty?

The pics appear to be equally graphic as the ones posted by the ABC web site listed above and those were posted on the ABC site on the 26th June.

Have you asked them the same question??

Leave them up as education.
Even trucks can disintegrate.

The family does not have to look at the pics.
And neither does anyone who finds them irritating or alarming.

These pictures are NOTHING compared to what can be found on youtube, I was considering buying a motorbike for my work commutes, not anymore, so much death and carnage FILMED, to see what HAPPENS turned me off.

It is tragic that some one has died, but if more people saw what happens in a significant accident, then perhaps they may re-evaluate there own driving practices.
I see no mention of who was at fault or what he even hit, the outcome remains the same, this bloke didn't come home

Giday alll.....I note all the comments from both sides after my post to Brians photos

I can relate to both for and against..what you all need to realise was that what really pressed my button was the unnecessary caption underneath. quote WEEKEND WARRIORS

Considering the cirmumstances of the accident (fell asleep at the wheel) and the fatality it wasnt called for...without that flippant and insensitive comment I may not have reacted like I did

I note Brian is silent maybe the cap did fit?

no further comment

It rather depends on what he means by 'weekend warriors'.

I've only ever heard it as a less than complimentary term for emergency service volunteers (of which I am one), but I don't know what Brian means by the post so tend to let it fly.

No further comment eh bugarra?

How about something like;

Brian,

I completely miconstrued the caption "weekend warriors". I now understand it is a term for emegency workers and was appropriate in relation to the photo. I made the incorrect assumption that it was a derogatory dig at Truck Drivers by you.

I guess I should have checked that out before getting stuck into you unfairly.

My apologies

Pull your head and mind your own business I am more than capable of answering in my words and in my time.....

I note your history of posts are a mix of being very helpful and friendly and there are times when you would have been better off keeping yur nose out of it...this recent post of yours is one of the latter

For the record I dont live on my computer for hours on end but I do check the site and mail most days. I have just logged on (Thursday 9am) ...some 24 hours or more I think since last time......and received a member message from Brian. He clearly realised that I had not seen the recent posts and so he contacted me direct in a curteous and friendly fashion explaining the caption........

For the public record this was my reply (just sent) and it would have remained as a private member message had you not stuck your nose in and had a go at me

CUT and PASTED below QUOTE

"Hi Brian

Thanks for your message and I do appreciate you contacting me. I reacted the way that I did mainly because of the caption which is what really pressed my button. To me the caption was a very negative / insulting observation about the deceased. Having lost a very dear friend in an accident I know the trauma it caused when those details were constantly in the press and the hype and conjecture that went with it about the cause of the accident.

The posting of the photos has clearly identified a mix of agreement and disagreement amongst members and I can honestly say I can relate to both sides of the argument about posting these and others like them.

Driving past the crash site during clean up was a very sobering experience. I repeat that without the caption I probably would not have reacted in the way I did.

I accept that you did not post the caption and I guess we can all learn from that.....it just goes to show that before we cut / paste or forward things we receive we should check the detail .. how easy it could happen to any of us

Regards

bungarra "

bungarra,

As you said I try to be helpful, but from time to time I post some stupid things.

Recently you (amongst others) gave me a spray, which was warranted. I note I didn't tell you to pull your head in, rather I took the feedback on board.

When I make a Horse's Arse of myself in public, I apologise publically.

Given that you publically told Brian to "hang his head in shame" (those are very strong words) I think a public apology is warranted, but that of course is up to you.

Jim.

No matter which way you look at it someone died and that is sad and it "does" effect a great number of people including the family, as to why it happened that will be for others to workout.

Accidents happen for a number of reasons be it a semi, 4wd or simply a family vehicle. Show the photos I don't see an issue with it the caption never saw it until someone mentioned it to be honest.

As far as I'm concerned more photos of accidents no matter which vehicle is involved should be posted if it shows the dangers of getting behind the drivers wheel. I'm not asking for why it happened just to show what can happen.

My last trip to Melbourne I noticed a heap of crosses on the side on the road particularly in one area there was an unusual number made me think why? I just figure it was a dangerous section of road for what ever reason and I know I was more alert and took more breaks.

To me the crosses work (if just for me) but I understand many councils are not in favour of them being installed.

Condolences to the family of the driver

Anyway that my feeling on this topic.

Brian
