Going around oz later in the year for 3-4 months, we will be carrying a fair bit of gear and hence dont want any of it getting knocked off. Is there any insurance you can get to cover you on an oz trip for car contents say upto 5k worth? Just thinkin with laptop, camera, fishing gear it all ads up!

I know there is travel insurance for luggage etc, but is there something to suit my situation?

If you have house insurance then it may already be covered. Check with insurance company. I am with DGA and they include all the camping gear in my camper as contents.

I asked the same question a few weeks back ( see post 58288) but in the end we decided that we will just "wing it".

With NRMA, in NSW, you can add items like an Engel fridge etc , to your home and contents and it is covered while it is in your car.

Will check that myself this arvo Graeme. Im with NRMA and the only way they would cover the waeco was under the camper trailer insurance. If it was stolen from the camper they would cover it under the camper policy, if it was stolen from my car badluck, (go figure would be safer in the car then camper one would think) other then that told me there was no other way of having it covered. Thanks for that will check it out. Regards Steve M

Steve, let me know how you go, as one of us has obviously been given the wrong advice. If it was me, I'll have to talk to NRMA to sort it out.

Hi
I asked my insurance company about my waeco and would it be covered under my car insurance. They saiid it would be covered under your home contents insurance as long as it does not spend more than three months at a time in the car. Thats with CGU insurance, so i would check out your own company to make sure. Seems they all have different plans.

Graeme, you are totally correct. I have just added it to my House contents insurance, they class it as portable. The lady new nothing about it and I explained to her that you have yours insured with them. She went away come back and said she had spoke to her manager and said no you are only covered for $500 of personal items in the vehicle. I said no, he has his fridge insured with you through his contents policy for his house, she then looked through the computer under FRIDGES and it come up with exactly what you had said. She said I have never heard of that before and I said well now you do when the next customer asks. Cost me an extra $62 on the policy but as you said cant be in the vehicle for 3 months or more, (how the hell do they prove that ??) Anyway all done and thank you very much for the info.
