Toyota has high quality, low appeal

Axle referring to Audi, ths is going back over 12 months ago, I did a coolant fluch on the hilux, changed coolant etc and thought maybe I should change thermostat as well (was going to high country), had been a while since I changed it. Went to Toyota got thermostat, gasket etc $15 thought I'll call in and see wife at work on way home. Went in thermostat in hand showed her where her money had gone (usual response, what's that ??) Her boss walks out, nice bloke says to me watch ya doing, ah just going to change thermostat. He looked at it and said is that the part, Yep I said, he said your kidding me, are they all the same for all cars, I said I would presume similiar but all work on the same basis, keep the engine at certain temp. He says to me yeah myn jammed shut in the Audi in getting done now A4 quattro (spelling). $1300 !!! WTF was my response, you sure you didnt do damage to the heads (V8) or some thing for that price. He said na, bloody thermostat is located in under the inlet manifold and had to pull half the top end off to get to it, (your've got to be kidding me). Have to be a bloody loaded to keep up the repairs to the thinh. He has no end of trouble with it. Even if I had the $$ would be the last car I would buy. Maybe he got a lemon I dont know but I wouldnt be willing to chance it. Regards steve M

Dont want to enter into the cruiser patrol argument but from what ive heard and read lately the patrol will certainly give you
a "BANG" for your buck.

Im not starting a cruiser/patrol debate here, my company vehicle is a landcruiser and it is simply an awsome machine the V8 turbo diesle is in a class of its own. But what I am saying is that how can they be seen to represent good value for money if the average joe can't even afford to buy one. If you read almost any artical about the landcruiser some mension is made towards the high purchase cost of these beasts.

Hi Glen, Wouldn't have thought any new 4wd has charachter. Character is built over time, scratches, dents etc. 60 series has more appeal to look at, and more character. It is older.

x2 American ideas on what constitutes a good vehicle are way different to Australians and most other nationalities.
Thats why only a small number of US made vehicles vehicles ever reach our shores.
However the fuel costs are having a big impact there,maybe more so than here
Americans are now beginning to look at small fuel misers like Hyundais
Soon the monster trucks will go the way of the dynosaur.
