Exeddy - they are the Safari Tuff Clutch and are very
well made, heaps stronger with no extra pedal effort and last
well too!
Im very happy and have been through a few over the years, PBR Daikin and custom.
Matt.

Do yourself a favour Andy and put a genuine toyota clutch in. I put an exeedy in
mine and had to replace it within 12months due to the dampers rattling. toyota clutch has no probs and has now done 70 k.
I was recently at a large brake and clutch company/supplier and asked them about these and he said "use a toyota clutch"
My two bobs worth.

Hi 120cruiser
"Please explain" :)
What is rattling?
I put a Safari Sport HD clutch in my 80 after I blew the original. I went a HD as I have an aftermarket turbo and tow a camper trailer. I do get some vibrations/rattle at low revs and under load.
I'm keen to find out what's causing it. Several 80's owners have told me it's normal for an 80.
Cheers
Zig

A clutch plate is made up of two pieces and they are joined together and dampened with either rubber, springs or both. The 1HZ and 1HDT engines have immense amounts of vibrations and wear these damper bushes out. The originals in the early toyotas were just rubber and they would last about 6 months. The latest generation has a rubber bush, spring and plastic bushes to try and make them last longer.
They make the most noise in low gear when taking off or they are really bad when in low range idling along.
Every clutch manufacturer is trying to fix them and have been for 15 years. It is normal and usually starts about 6 months after a clutch has been installed.
Best of luck with what brand you choose.
For some reason the 100 series is not as bad but the 1HZ in them went with a larger harmonic balancer to probably absorb the vibrations.

Hi Andy,
I have a 99 105 series and replaced
mine a couple of years ago with a Daikin unit. Have had no problems, in fact quite the opposite as it fixed the dreaded Landcruiser clutch shudder which is very common in this model (1HZ diesel).
Cheers

Hi all
you do realise that the Daikin / Excedy ( same thing ) is the exact unit toyota use from factory ??
Cheaper than genuine for the same product..

Andy,
I have had a Daikin 'Heavy Duty' clutch in my 94 GXL (1FZ-FE) for 160,000 km now (probably about 50, 000 km towing) with no problems to date.
You've probably thought of this, but it is a good opportunity to decide what else needs doing while you have it open.
Cheer,
Matt.
