Well in follow up to Overloaded are we Guilty as charged. I am afraid I did not make it. Weigh bridge today came in at 2895kg. GMV 2900. Problem is still have the Wife & I, 100ltrs of Water and all the food to throw in yet, so will go over 350kg. What this really means is I can carry all the gear just can not have a camper to put it in. Also means most modern 4 x 4s are in reality not suitable for what we use them for. No time left so now will have to do the GVM Upgrade when we return. Australia is calling and I will have to join the 90% of overloaded campers for a while. Ta to all that replied with advice. With the new Cooper sts, H/Duty raised suspension and Load assist bags, the vehicle can at least carry the load safely. Regards Tony

TONY B ; you wouldn't be the first to overload your vehicle, just think, if we overload our 4b's, imagine what weight is in some of these car/van combinations.especially when you see them sitting down in the bum like most of them do

mark. Too true, still a shame, though will get it upraded as the last modification for the rig. Off next Wednesday across the centre and over to the West so that I am happy to say will have to wait. Regards Tony.

Dont forget to add any ball weight from a trailer as that is part of your GVM as well. Just adds to the fun.
There was a thread on the 4x4 action forum I think about a guy who upgraded his GVM cost a packet with new brakes and all sorts of stuff.

Well mate, you'll just have to cut back on the pet rocks and camp oven collection.

Put the 100 litres of water and the tucker in the camper trailer.

Seriously though I think a lot of us take far too much with us when we travel. It just sits there and weighs the vehicle down and uses more fuel to move it.

Notso. lol The wife did not want to stay behind, I did not want to stay behind and food and water..mmm better have that. Apart from that most else of what we take you would class as a neccessity for the remote places we tend to go. But on your advice I did get rid of the pet rocks. Cheers Tony

Tony,
What about you subtract what you have removed for the trip such as rear seats, or maybe you should think about removing the dead weight that wont be used on your holiday.

Cheers

>>No time left so now will have to do the GVM Upgrade when we return.

Well that aint as easy as it appears... I went into this with engineers down here in Vic for the Patrol4x4 forum, and it can happen SORT of easy if your car is brand new and never registered.
Or if they have previously done this ACTUAL MODEL (same engine, same suspension, same gearbox, same luxury level, same tires etc)... They can reuse the data gained in the past to do yours.

BUT..........

Once registered, it becomes almost impossible. Dont ask me why, but thats what I was told.

Heres one interesting part:
But if not, it aint going to happen - the Brake testing that is required starts at .... "TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS".... thats just the brake test section - AND IF IT FAILS, YOU START AGAIN!

Bit of info here

Truckster. Wow mate that is scary! Lets hope QLD has more down to earth rules. Ta for the link. If they want to make it that hard I will forget I ever worried about this as a car driver (sorry for the truckies) and dirve off into the sunset with fingers crossed. Cheers Tony

Congratulations on driving your vehicle overloaded.

Join the rest of the boofheads out there that do it and all I hope is that I am not the one you run into when the rig gets a little out of control.

Not a good thing.

Dunco. Not very fair comments. Why? This vehicle has a GCM of 5900kg with a braked trailer. It has a GCM of 3650 kg with an unbraked trailer. So it is still able to carry this weight (3250kg) well within its safety limits. Just not to what the compliance plate states. It would be safer on the road than a car towing a van so relax a little on the people trying to be up frount with the issues. Cheers Tony.

Very fair comment mate....I travel WITHIN all my limits and I expect other roads users to do the same. Doesn't matter what limits we talk about.....or how about driving over the Alcohol limit, is that allowable as well.

Compliance plates say it all Tony.

If you want to risk it, go right ahead. Hope nothing happens. Your choice with your family mate. Good luck

Ok if fair. Give me your weigh bridge results after you load up for your round australia trip van and car loaded and full! You may not be as innocent as you would like to think. I myself thought I would have no problems. Ball in your court. Cheers Tony

Can only trust a weigh bridge. Give it a go, you have one of the easiest cars to overload check this link out - Load up weigh then reply, not that I do not trust you. Well maybee........ Cheers Tony.
