I have heard that camping on the legal nude beach at Pelican Point is banned because it has been declared an Aborigine sacred site.
Anyone know if this is true????

I haven't heard anything. My fishing club regularly camp at Pelican Point when we have competitions on the river or lake, we've been going their for over ten years and I've never heard of any aboriginal site in the area.

Google search - 0.23 seconds. Refer to Bamera Council Meeting Oct2007 Link

"At a recent Council meeting the issue of camping around the perimeter of Lake Bonney was raised and referred to the Committee for discussion. There are a number of issues that apply to the enforcement of camping provisions around Lake Bonney one of which relates to the issue of land tenure. In a broad sense Councils ability to enforce any controls largely relates to land that is either under its ownership or under its care and control. Council currently have a range of By Laws, which allow it to control the camping of people on its land.

In summary this issue needs to be dealt with in a coordinated manner that is applicable to the management of camping on all Council lands. "

I reckon, if there's ever any doubt(s) regarding your intentions relating to access or use of something that might be controlled by another, then seek their opinion or approval before proceeding. In other words, check with the Council. In this case the Barmera Council (Google search 0.21 seconds) Link

we have had many great camps around lake bonney (not in the nudist bit i might add), and i would say that the council meeting about camping would of been for us free campers not pelican point, we haven't been there for a couple of years but it was up and running last time we were there.
there's a funny story that goes along with the nude camping area, quite a while ago, about 15 years we were camping around the lake and went for a drive right around the lake to check out other spots and look for wood, when we spotted a little dirt track, with on signs etc..., and headed down and as we rounded a bend in the road there in fount of us were a couple cooking a bbq without a stitch on, well the blokes in our party started wincing and saying ouch (thinking of fat splatters) and all the kids were wide eyed especially the teenage boys, it was certainly an unexpected sight.
back to lake bonney though after seeing it on tv the other night and the lack of water there and what they have is very high in salt it might not be a great spot to go to until some water (hopefully) comes our way.
chris.
