I signed up this evening as a member, as I've been given the job of putting together an incredibly short notice trip for tomorrow morning, and needed some directions to the
campsite from the maps on here.
All paid up and yet still showing as a visitor, and if it hadn't been for the fact I still had a few of the "free" map
views from when I first signed up as a visitor ages ago, I'd have been stuffed.
There aren't too many sites around now-a-days that don't give instant access once
membership is paid. I know trips shouldn't be planned on short notice, but then most modern websites can also handle instant
membership too.
I managed with just the free access - which makes me wonder why I bothered paying - but would have liked to be able to do a bit more than I did.

Hi Super-T,
What I found was when I joined I did not put the receipt number from the bank transaction with my application, Something like that anyway.
So I rang a couple of days later with it and all was fixed up.
I believe it still has to be matched and consolidated manualyl unfortunately.
I know this does not help you short term.
It's just the way the system works.

Thanks peoples.
Further investigation of the site, now the packing and planning are done, has found it's all done manuallly Mon-Friday (Hello? this IS the 21st Century).
Thankfully this is a very small spontaneous trip to a relatively local (2 hours or so)
camping site, that I have been to once as a tag along via a very different route, but therefore have a very rough idea where it is and how to get to it, so the "free" view of the map, and manually entering co-ordinates into the gps unit, combined with putting those into metroguide's "mapsource",
has managed to painstakingly construct a gps route to follow, and of course there's always my paper maps that I never go anywhere without, so we have managed in a sort of a fashion.
If it hadn't been for the short notice, and lack of time to search through the whole site, I think I would have discovered that most of what I needed could have been done with $5 worth of viewing credits, instead of a $60
membership. So only time will telll whether this
membership is going to be a one off. I don't forsee renewing it because it certainly hasn't been a great introduction to the site, so it has 12 months that I'm now stuck with whether I want them or not, in order to change that first impression.
Which is quite a shame, because first impressions tend to be harder to shake, and such a simple thing like an automated
membership could have seen the site get off to a much better start.

And if it takes a couple of days, big deal !
Do your homework properly, and stop being a "stress-head"

I agree, should not bag the site because you did not plan
well. I joined the first day I viewed the site. It is obvious there are a lot more long term benefits. As you have said you have been using it for free for info, why not contribute? You will always get a straight answer, plus a few you do not want (lol). I am here for the long term gain, not the short term rush and the yearly fee is less after the first join up fee, so give it a go and give some positive back. Regards Tony

P/S Read the
Membership note. I noticed you paid Business
Membership $60. Will this mean you will want to advertise a business as
well or should you have paid 50 for the ordinary? Cheers

ROFL Super T you
sign up and then you bag the site, now that's a start of a special person, as you said "first impressions"
well my first impression is Bushfix is spot on.
As for short notice trips some of my best trips have been with zip planning just toss stuff in and hope you remembered everything.
Look forward to you having more constructive comments over the next 12 months.
Brian

Whoa, touchy touchy.
The only complaint I had was that it isn't instant activation on payment, which I actually think in this day and age is a fair complaint.
Gee, we wouldn't want to mention any shortcomings a site has, let's all just keep quiet about them and not mention them.
Talk about a head in the sand attitude, and now the real friendly responses like "go away", makes the site even more appealing.
I've kept an eye on this site for a very long time, and it's done nothing but improve from day one, but I'm sure it didn't get that way with the attitude some of you are showing.
Sheesh.

Trent,
That is a fair comment to mention, and one which can and should be brought up if concerned. Maybe it is the negative side of having a website with a human face to it and owners/staff with a life outside the site. :-)
BTW, welcome aboard Trent..... :-)
Andrew
