Just a story

Was in Melbourne yesterday, and ended up at a Toyota Dealers Yard, as I wanted to have a look at a Nissan 7 seat, 4.2 lt TD Patrol,,, 2001 job.

Bugger me if they didn't have $39,888 on it !......... 2001 Patrol ?
90,000km, on the clock.
Now the vehicle was in pristine condition, and comes with a lift kit, snorkel, and basically nothing else..

Dealer is all over me ( Thats normal for those "lovely" people )
And am not allowed to take it off road, and do a bit of 4X4 driving, to test it's front diff, and transfer case, ect faults/operation, and grinding noises, which is my limit of knowledge.

But am allowed to take it up the road, in peak hour traffic.
MMmmmm, I thought, drives well, even with Cooper ST tyres on it, and they had ripples/waves on the sidewalls of all 4 tyres

Won't budge on price, I made an offer, he looks surprised, miles apart.
" I want to sell a vehicle today !" was his call.....

" Then take my offer " was my call.....

Unbelievable, the way in which they treat you...

A nice vehicle, but about $8,000-$10,000 overpriced

Cheers all

Bucky

hey bucky

one of my friends parents recently bought 2000 model 100 series GXL cruiser with 90,000 km on the clock and paid a whopping $45,000 for it, so is the car you looked really that over priced, if it is that good of a car then they will worth more.

and my mates parents car was a private sale too.i personally can't justify paying that much, but thats me.

goodluck.

That price makes my project seem quite worth while.

ex 3ltr can be had for around 20k then put a 4.2 engine in it at around 10k + installation 2-3k and you have a 4.2 at around 35k with 2 years less age and possibly a lot lower KM.
JMHO

Hope you 'stood your ground' - if so WELL DONE. You obviously understand the 'mechanism' involved in buying a vehicle. Just beacuase they (the retailer) have an asking price doesn't mean you (the buyer) has to pay it. NEGOTIATE, NEGIOTIATE, NEGOTIATE.
Remember to buy with your head NOT your heart.

Tell him "thats OK, I've got a couple of private sales to look at, and I also considering a new Patrol because Landcruisers are not within my budget". Then walk out and take a chance that it's there a few days later. Don't forget to give him your phone number - if he's any good at his job he'll ring you in a day or so.

HI Buckby,
You are completely wrong in your timing. Its no good going in early in the month - they have no reason to want to negotiate much. But all salesmen have monthly sales targets (as do their bosses) that they want to meet or exceed. Go back on July 31 and make a reasonable cash offer - it will be yours no doubt.
Cheers,
Glen

I was looking for a D40 Navara used. Saw many with 50K on the clock, good condition etc. All were priced around $40-43K !!

Crazy i thought, I bought a new one as an ABN holder with bullbar, tint and floor matts drive away $42K.

They think we are all silly.

Good luck

With Nissan only offering the 3L & Toyota's 200 series way overpriced the last of the big old Turbo diesels are holding their value well, not that I'd say that one was good value. Probably $5K there to be trimmed off :-)
