Hi all,
I was wondering if any members have one of these Barrett 950 HF units in their vehicles? If so could you let me know how reliable they have been so I can decide if it is worthwhile me buying a second hand one please? I would appreciate any positive or negative feedback.
Thanks,

Hi Nev
I have a Barrett 950 purchased new some years ago........it has been very reliable and I have shifted it into 3 different vehicles over the yers as I change vehicles from time to time
I have only contacted Barret twice over that time.....not over the unit functionality at all..... but about other HF issues and they have been very helpful and responsive
Highly recomended from my experience

The Barrett equipment is very reliable.
Mine's been faultless.
But from what I've seen, its easy to run into other problems. A friend bought a second hand one off Ebay recently, but it wouldn't autotune - ended up that the autotune had taken a hit, and needed to be sent to Barrett for a new board and casing - cost $600 to fix, with the cost being shared by the Ebay seller.
And background noise often stops people from receiving clearly - might be the fridge, or the Megapulse or the PDA or the vehicle's motor. Evertually you can narrow it down and things are fine.
Then theres the installation - need good power, and a quality fuse to the set, and the antenna needs enough clearance from the body and a good earth.

Nev,
Bought one new & has been in the same vehicle since. No problems but from talking to the Auto elec who fitted it good earthing is essential.
We do remove the remote head, the main unit & the autotune every time we finish a trip so a good set-up is necessary
Good luck
