Further to our Post 58613 of early June - we now have our fridge back.
It seems it was just one of those things and we have been re-assured by the technician that worked on it - Justin - that all is now well and he assumes it should be reliable into the future. He did say that the compressor in this fridge was one of the best he has worked on. We haven't been told exactly what the problem was, but it didn't require any parts and Derek - ABR - had it fixed at no cost at all to us.
It is running happily in the garage at present, has been for the last 24 hours and lets hope that it continues to do so.
We have had great back up service from Derek would be happy to purchase from ABR again in the future.

Hi Allan

A little word of reassurance if nothing else, I have purchased lights, solar panels and other 12 volt bits and pieces from Derek over the past 12 months (OK a self confessed ebay junkie) and have always found ABR great to deal with, offering great after market service.

Fridges read very well, have an engle at the moment, looking at a second (beer) fridge, at around $850 they look to be a great buy for the size.

Please let me know how they behave in the field.

Regards

Hi Mick,
We have had this fridge for just over twelve months before any problems.
We had two engels before this - one in car and one in the camper - both performed very well but we found we couldn't live with them due to vibration and noise.
The Sidewinder performs as well as the engels, but with no noise or vibration. We have had two trips up north with this fridge and are very happy with the performance and the power consumption which appears to be lower than the same size engel. We have no trouble keeping ice cream camped for a few days in fairly hot weather. Our 80 watt solar panel and Optima batteries have no trouble keeping up with this and other power requirements in camp.
Cheers
Allan

Hi Allan

Could not agree more with the engel noise and vibration, have a CUB Off Road camper, I must have become accustom to the buz of the fridge on the ply wood floor, just reminding me the fridge is working as you attempt to fall sleep. (always kicks in at around 3.00am.)

Noticed a Sidewinder last night on ebay for around $450 last bid better get busy !

Thanks for the "good oil".

Regards again.

Ah,
Finally some useful information on these fridges.
Its been on my "would like" list for a while, but I wasnt going to commit to it until I read something other than Dereks a great bloke etc etc.
So it seems everyones happy with their sidewinder and Derek is a good bloke to deal with.
You cant get much better than that.

Cheers guys keep the information coming.

Pete
