At 10:45am Monday morning I was at
Alice Springs Airport waiting to board a plane for home.
At 4:00pm I was walking through the front door at home. Now that is how to get from
Alice Springs to home in half a day.
Some photos from the Canning.
First a new vehicle that has graced the track since last year. A Pajero abandon in the bowl of a
sand dune between Well18 and Well19.

The
toilet at Durba Springs. I think that the fire started from inside the collection bag under the building.

The new
sign at the turn off to
Calvert Range.

As you can see by the
sign access is allowed as long as prior permission is granted.
After we spent 2 nights at
Calvert Range, we were the only convey in there at the time, we then spent 2 nights at Durba Springs being the only visitors at that time.
The new
toilet at
Georgia Bore.

The fire pit.

While the improvements to the
camping area at
Georgia Bore are good, rubbish was being dumped in the fire pits. There look like a bin so they will get used as a bin and not for what they were intended for.
I know they were put in by volunteers recently and we can all appreciate that but I think that the design is wrong for a fire pit.
Apart from that the
Canning Stock Route is still out there with a few more vehicles driving it, but we still managed to go 4 days with out seeing another vehicle, just camels.

Looks like a fire pit to me,
bins don't usually have hot plates.
I don't think it matters what they are like, some people will dump rubbish anywhere, I have never thought that the mines in the High Country look like
bins either, but some people obviously do.
Unfortunately we all get 'tarred with the same brush' as these bogans.
Thanks for the photos, we hope to be going next July.

Shaker,
Don't get me wrong, the fire pits are good, just as long as people use them for what they were designed for.
I have already put my name down for the trip next June. Can't wait.

Agreed Shaker.
You're on the
Canning Stock Route - one of the most remote tracks in the world - who the f*** do you think is going to be collecting your rubbish!?
You carry it in... you carry it out... unless you're stupid....

Hi Wayne
I spoke to a guy Sunday night at 45 heading for 49...
He had met up with Ken at 44 (southbound)- and already they had 2 vehicle 'limping' to 33 !! Don't know the circumstances.

Signman,
That does not sound good.
The two vehicle still have the big dunes to cross before getting to
Well 33 and the corrugations.
I hope that it all works out all right in the end.

Hi Wayne
Great photos.
Reminds me when we came across a Fire Pit some time back, some
Morons left a couple of Live Rounds wrapped up in Newspaper,
we only found them by chance, after setting the Kindling Wood and
tearing up the paper, you have to be vigilant all the time.
Cheers
Daza

Glad to hear that you got home without too much drama...except for the lack of a wet T shirt competition :))

Wayne
Thanks to your helper for sending through the updates while you were away. It was good to track your progress.
It was good inspiration ahead of setting off Friday week in the Troopy's maiden voyage !!!
