hi everyone, im new here, i look forward to reading through some of the interesting info here.
i recently had the front shafts replaced on my 99 4wd rodeo ute, was fine before then, but one of the boots had split and the mechanic said that i might as
well replace the whole lot while they were at it. so i said yes and when i got the car back, i notice that in 4wd oone of the
wheels, im pretty sure the right, appears to not spin correctly when i am steering the car left or right, it as if the wheel is actually being physically slowed down by something, it seems odd because i never noticed it before, and i just want to know if anyone has had a similar problem, or is this normal? the mechanic said its fine but it just doesnt feel right. they put it up on the car lift and put it in gear and made the
wheels turn whilst steering left and right and i could clearly see that the left wheel spins much faster than the right one, with the right wheel almost coming to a stop on full lock. it just seems odd to me.
and info would be fantastic!! thanks

Its possible that a brake is dragging on one side, remember that there is a diff between each wheel and any drag will stop a wheel from spinning on a hoist and cause the other to spin faster ie I think what you have is normal. Barnray

Back in the days when there were a dozen or more grease nipples under a vehicle that were greased every 1,000
miles, I used to watch the local mechanic doing the
services. When the vehicle was up on the hoist he would rotate the tail shaft by hand to get the nipples exposed so he could apply the gun. When he did that you would not see the two
wheels revolve at the same speed. Mostly only one of the back
wheels would turn. It does not take much to stop one wheel when they are not on the deck, you need to do a better test than you did to see if anything is wrong.
Just replacing the tail shafts would not affect the performance of the front axle. The problem would have been there before the replacement. Probably the new shafts have removed some vibration that was masking what you are experiencing now.
