I am looking at purchasing the Hema Navagator GPS as it appears to have a very good base for off road navigation (apart from street to street navigation), albeit with a relatively small screen. Does anyone have any comment regarding this GPS and it's suitability/flexibility?

I would appreaciate any comments.

Thank you

I just purchase one and yes it has most maps pre loaded.

the 2 GB SD card is nearly full so if you want to add further maps , you need to copy the data to a new card and then you can add. your own maps to it.

It work well so far and the screen is lage enough to see the maps in Oz. explorer software which runs on the unit.

I am happy with the unit as a replacement to the Laptop which i used before with the maps.

The street by street is ok so far in Melbourne but it might be a bit behind the tom tom's etc but certainly does the job for me on a daily basis.

Hi pradowolf
I am also thinking of getting one, like you to replace the laptop. I would mainly like t use it with Oz.Explorer. With the topo maps in Ozi, are they very small and compressed or quite readable for an off road venture.

Cheers

Stephen

Hi Robert,

The Hema Navigators have been flying out of the ExplorOz Online Shop lately. So far, we have only had positive feedback, which is very encouraging.

Pradowolf is correct, if you are wanting to load additional maps, you will need to purchase a larger memory card.

If you are looking to purchase one, dont forget that ExplorOz Members earn $49.90 in Member Money & receive free overnight shipping when purchased from the ExplorOz Online Shop.

I purchased one from the ExploreOz shop a few weeks ago.

Generally I like it however, the Route 66 software seems to be lacking in the Newcastle area. Many old streets are not shown. Can't be compared with Garmin's City Navigator.

The reson I purchased it was for Ozi Explorer. The Hema maps on Ozi Explorer look OK but have not yet been in a remote area to try them.

Cheers
Dick

Hi i have just bought one of these and so far it has been great, its maps of Perth are up-to-date so far, i have not used the topographic maps yet but i have no doubt it will perform to my needs.

Hema are bringing out an updated version that has the missing maps of the south west and some of Qld but there is no time frame as to when this will happen, i am aware that all Navigators purchased between now and the release of the updated one will receive the updated maps for free or the difference in price (they may raise the price from $990).

Hi Robert

Not really familar with Hema unit , but for off-road It would be worth checking its features.

I frequently find that tracks are not adequate on all these things.
The GPS 276c that I use has the ability to have your own tracks loaded into it , and then you can choose to navigate this track as opposed to just watch a pointer move on the screen following a map.

Thank you one and all for your comments and suggestions. I have now purchased one and am yet to try the off road maps. Everything I have heard about the Hema Navagator is positive. No doubt others will come on to the market but I am very happy with my purchase.

Thank you all again for your comments.
