Hi Sleepy!

You have opened pandora's box with a question like this. You will find a lot of info on the following site

http://www.pajeroclub.com.au/

I have a 97 pajero (3.5 sohc engine) running with a normal system with no problems experienced so far over a ten month period. But you will read of backfire problems. If the ignition system is not up to scratch you may have problems that are not evident when running on petrol. I have done a lot of reading on this and some owners who have had problems with backfiring found that fitting lpg specification spark leads fixed the problem.I haven't done this. The guy who installed mine has been doing so for over 10 years and swears I will not have problems with my system. I hope he is right. The new injection system is supposed to be more fuel efficient. I can only tell you that when I posted gas consumption for my system I received a reply from another Pajero owner who said they were getting exactly the same consumption from their gas injection system. So what is right I don't know!! The difference between the 2 systems was far more when I inquired. If you can have the newer system at $3600 I would be tempted to go for that. I paid 3300 for the old system and had to wait 4 months to get the job done because they were so busy. I would try to talk to others who have had work done by the installer you are considering as there are a lot of operators who have only gone into this business due to the escalating fuel costs. My gas consumption is 15.5 to 16L per 100k highway at 100 to 110 kph and 19.5 ish for city.

Hi Peter

The tank holds 66 usable litres and is fitted under the rear where the old 92 litre petrol tank used to be. A 52 litre aux petrol tank was then fitted passenger side roughly under passenger side seats. On gas from 66litres I get about 330km - 350 round town and on the highway just a little over 400km. I cant tell any difference between gas and petrol as far as performance goes. I would probably like the gas tank to be mounted a little higher although it is still higher than the rear axle.

One must have, as far as I am concerned is to have a filler mounted on the rear bumper near the centre, I have 2 gas vehicles with this. This means that you can fuel the car from a bowser on either side, I also have a filler located in the petrol filler space but rarely use this. I have found this especially important when travelling and towing a camper as I have found the gas bowsers are rarely marked clearly when driving into a servo and this way it doesnt matter which side you are on. This is something I would highly recommend!!!! regards Kc

The benefits of LPG injection well and truly justify the extra $800. Better economy, more power, greatly reduced (if not eliminated) chance of backfiring, interfaced computer control/monitoring.

While I dont have a pajero, I am getting LPG fitted next month to the prado. I have done heaps of searching, asking, rang many gas places, recomended and not and I am going the vapour system. The injected system on mine would be around the 4g mark the vapour is costing me $2900 including the lube kit. I have asked a few people who have had it fitted to there prados by the same mob fitting mine and all said "wish I had done it years ago and saved $$$) I have heard here and there I should run colder plugs, different leads etc obviously all pub talk as the installer has told me to run the recomended plugs, stick with genuine leads and I dont need to change anything bar normal services. He said I can expect around a 20% increase when running on LPG. I dont know if the new prado's might be similar to what you desrcibe of the new pajero. The new prado can only run the injected system due to having a plastic inlet manifold. Ask heaps of questions and ring heaps of different places and you will get to know who is full of it and who sounds like they now what they are talking about. I heard today on the radio Midas Exhaust are now fitting gas as well. God help the customer they cant fit exhaust properly as far as my experiances have been. All the best on it. Regards Steve M
