Perusing through the net and looking at the Logicgear XL488 GPS. Seems great value (approx $350-$399) for something that provides Sensis street navigation plus the ability to load OziExplorer maps for offroad stuff. Also has bluetooth for handsfree mobile and an A/V input for an optional reverising camera input.
For the price it appears almost too good to be true. Anyone have experience with it?

I would make sure it will run Ozi maps before you buy it

Yep.
Got one.
Run OziCE 2.19.
You need to load the lot onto a SF card you can't use the usb for this.
You can run OziCe from the SF card or copy the OziCE folder across to the on-board flash memory using the utility in the Applications folder. It loads and probably runs faster from the on-board memory. The GPS is on Com port 2.
Get rid of the useless junk in the maps folder and those languages you don't use in the root folder first to save memory. Also you can delete the OziexplorerCE_mips.exe file but keep OziexplorerCE_arm.exe - this is the one that runs on the Logic Gear.
Here is how to do it:
With OziCE program and all the maps on the SD Card
Put card in GPS UNIT
To access OziCE in LogicCrear GPS
From Setting option
Select -Application
Select - magnification graphic option
Select - up arrow
Select – up arrow again
Select – storage card
Select – OziexplorerCE
SCROLL DOWN
Select – OziexplorerCE_arm.exe
Select – back option
Select – back option again
PRESS LARGE GPS BUTTON – loads / runs OziexplorerCE program
To access the logic gear software in LogicCrear GPS
From Setting option
Select -Application
Select - magnification graphic option
Select - up arrow
Select – up arrow again
Select – NANDFlash
Select – Logicgearnavigation
SCROLL DOWN
Select – logicgearnavigation graphic – think it is the last file
Select – back option
Select – back option again
PRESS LARGE GPS BUTTON – loads Logicgear Navigation software
Also If you want to run say a 4gig SF card you need to get a non-HCSF Card. The Logic Gear can not access the HCSF Cards.
Hope this helps
Cheers
Brad

Thanks Brad, big help! Have looked around up here in QLD and it seems they are pretty much out of stock and waiting for the successor - XL499 - in a couple of months or so.
Only place I heard that currently stocks them is an auto
shop in Vic but they want $450, plus shipping (rip off considering Kmart and Officeworks had them for around $350). Bugger! Looks like I will have to wait til the new one comes out.
Again, thanks for the very useful info - should be the same for the XL499.

I've just bought a XL488 from OfficeWorks - their normal price is $279 - which is pretty good value. It works brilliantly!
I now have a question - I want to get reversing cameras for the Pajero and also for the caravan - has anyone done this? There is only one camera input on the XL488, so is it possible to have an external switching unit that can switch between the two cameras without plugging/unplugging all the time?
