Only second post.
I have a 1990 80 series Landcruiser. Just purchased.
The problem I have is that my sppedo is squealing quite loud from the dash. I read in someone else's forum to pull it out and re-grease it. I have done this about a week ago. (I took it off from the gearbox and pulled it through the sleeve). I applied just normal grease to it and pushed it back through the sleeve. It stopped the squeal straight away.
Only for a couple of days though. It is back again, probably louder.
Is there something else I can do or is my speedo cactus.
Cheers.

Howdy,
I had the same with my 1990 80 series,
regreasing the speedo cable only takes a few minutes. Just make sure you do not grease the last third of the cable on the speedo end or your speedo will be cactus. The excess grease will push into the speedo and clog everything up. Your best bet would be to purchase a new cable. It took half a million k's to make mine squeal.
Cheers, Udo

Cheers for the reply.
Probaly a bit too late as I have already greased the whole length of the cable a couple of days ago.
I might pull it again, give it a clean near the top and hope for the best. Hopefully I get away with it.
Cheers.

Does your speedo needle also fluctuate when traveling at a constant speed? Best bet is maybe to replace the entire speedo cable - inner & outer. I've a 50's car that does this. No amount of cleaning the inner cable and cleaning the outer (inside) with a pipe cleaner on a wire soaked in CRC has fixed it.

Its like "look, we're doing 30 - 60 - 30 - 60 - 30"

Louie the speedo stay's quite steady. No bouncing at all.
Will give it another clean and hope for the best I think. Otherwise it is a new cable for me.
Thanks for the reply.
