The other week I posted about the trials and tribulations of getting my 4skinner started after it had been sitting for yonks. The alternator pulley had slightly seized but I was able to free it up. Then it was fine.
Well, the warden drove it yesterday and it had the same problem for a few moments - smoke everywhere. So I think new alternator bearings are due. Anyone know how to get these things apart? Can you just remove the vacuum pump?
Thanks

Hi Lou, there were two different pumps/alternators on the LN106 2.8D hilux's (same motor as your 4 runner) One had the pump on the back the other was on the front. I had the one with the pump on the back which you could pull apart. I couldnt tell you about the other one with pump on front which yours probably is been a later model then
mine was. I would imagine you could. Isnt this the way the auto sparki's would fix it ??? I had
mine done by auto elec but I know the bloke and he showed it to me pulled down so thats how I now that
mine did seperate. Regards Steve M

both vac pups are servicable. the vac pumps unbolt 3 o 4 screws. and pull away from the main alt shaft. front mounted may have dummy shaft
