I apoligise to anyone that my dumbness may offend but I cant find anyway of adjusting the handbrake.

If the adjust nut is on the lever itself surely I dont have to take the front seats out to get at the screws in console.

There will be a simple answer and I will be most appreciative.

Thank you

sandk33.
The adjustment is automatic, there is a ratchet mechanism in the drum . Each time you apply the hand brake it should adjust up. If it is still working you can just pull on the lever several times and feel it tighten up. The mechanism uses a very sticky grease to stop it undoing, some times this grease gets washed of by a mechanic, if this has happened replace it and all will be well. Eric

Your correct in saying.........The adjustment is automatic, there is a ratchet mechanism in the drum . Each time you apply the hand brake it should adjust up................. However the adjusters will only adjust the brake shoe to drum clearance and will not take up the slack in stretched cables and general wear in linkages etc.
From memory, the shoes and drums all being ok and adjusted, you should be able to gain access through the centre console by lifting out the tray.A ratchet 10 mm spanner is the easiest and quickest way to adjust the cable. If you ave to remove the centre console access to screws should be easy if the front seats are put all the way forward. The other screws should be under black trim panels ,coin holders trays etc in the lower forward top section of the console...(make sense?????)
Just dont overtighten it do it bit by bit and check it allowing for around 5-7 clicks on the hanbrake lever. Hope thie helps

Hi sandk33

Just had a look in the manual, appears there is an adjustment under the console storage box. Looks like the storage compartment comes out allowing access.
My manual is pdf on CD, came from ebay for around $10. Been a big help.

You may be well advised to remove the brake drums & check that the auto adjusters are working before you adjust the handbrake cable.
