All,

I have 2 weeks during the september school holidays leaving Brisbane on 20/9 and need to be in Ballarat the 4th October. We have done the Newell Highway a number of times so looking for something different or good ideas. Travelling with SWMBO, 2 kids (14 and 12), and 1 dog.

We have Pajero and Camping pretty well setup for remote travel. We want to make bit of a road trip out of it so I would appreciated any ideas people have on places to go but we do need to be able to take the dog.

Thanks

Why not go a little farther west?

Down the Darling starting around Lightning Ridge, maybe White Cliffs as a detour?

Then back along the Murray or through northern Vic to Ballarat?

Lake Mungo ? That is a reasonable day's drive from Ballarat

Maybe.

I don't know what sort of kilometres you like to do in a day.

Do you like dry country and a bit of dust or not?

20/9 to 4/10 is about 2 weeks?

Will be starting to warm up out west.

Maybe just stick to the great divide and concentrate on the snowy and victorian alps? Might catch some of the last snow at higher altitiudes.

OldPlodder,

Thanks for the ideas. I was actually looking at going further west and looked at white cliffs last night.

I would love to so the central and into the high country but my problem is the dog and the number of national parks I need to work around in this area.

Yes I have 2 weeks. It will just be a qucik run up the Newell back to Brisbane so I have a good 10 days or so and prefer to do a travel day with a rest day to explore the local area and keep the kids amused.
