Hi everyone,
I have two RV4 Tents and want protect the floor from being damaged. Can anyone advise if a poly tarp or perforated matting is the way to go to place underneath the tents.
Cheers and see you in the bush

I have an RV3 and I use the OzTent Groundsheet under it. A piece of Poly Tarp would work OK.

I'll vote for shade cloth.
I've tried tarps in the past and now use shade cloth.
The tarp works OK as protection until it rains, then it holds
water under the tent usually with predictable results.
The shade cloth protects and wont hold
water.

Hi we have a piece of canvas that was specially made up for the tent, it comes out the front to make a floor for the "porchie" bit, seems to work
well for us.
Cheers

We just use shadecloth, doubled over, and as a friend has an industrial sewing machine, we get him to stitch the edge..Have a 7 mt * 3.8 one, under the Trak Shak,,never had an issue setting it up anywhere, or any tares in it either
We do the same with our safari tent.
Light, folds up quick, and does not retain dirt.
Cheers

We have a Tourer type tent and even with the heavy vynle floor had found sharp objects under the foor which was both uncomfortable and which could possibly cause damage to the vynle. We bought a length of the heavier grade shade cloth which we now run under the tent as
well as out under the awning of the tent. The shade cloth keeps the bottom of the tent clean for packing up as
well as allowing most of the sand/dirt to fall through at the front of the tent. I think some caravan parks require some form of ground cover to protect the grass for extended stays however I am not aware of what type suites their standards or requirements.

I use annexe matting, which can be bought from Clarke Rubber. Goes under the tent and extends under the annexe on my RV4 Oztent.
This is a more expensive option than shade cloth, but I have been happy with it.

We are also very happy with annexxe type matting (got it from an online
camping store). You can bang pegs through it without the hole spreading. More expensive than shade cloth but
well worth the money. I've also found it has a slightly spongy feel underfoot for a bit more comfort.

Another vote for shadecloth. Cheap and nearly indestructible. Light and easy to pack. Works great.

Yeah, shadecloth gets my vote.
Also massages your feet when you walk on it, but reckon it might be a bit slippery if you've had too many sherbets!

Bob Y. I'm trying to picture this. I would have thought the shadecloth would be on the ground, under the tent floor. Here you are coming
home after some sherberts trying to get into your tent and walking on the shadecloth. This is going to make it very difficult to find your swag/bag and is definitely a
sign of a very significant sherbert problem.

Nah, Mf, you've got it wrong.
You save so much money using shadecloth that you've got enough loot left to buy extra shadecloth to go under the annexe. That's where you get the foot massage.
Then any spending stuff leftover is used to purchase the aforementioned sherbets. If you slip over in the annexe then you can always crawl into the swag.............but ir's hell on the knees lol!!!!!!
Hooroo,
Bob.

totally agree with shadecloth. we have 90% grade stuff under our camper floor & it stops sticks and sharp objects piercing the pvc material.

I have a soft floor camper and I use the polytarp cover off the trailer as the tent floor groundsheet - first off and last on!
I use a 6m thick shadecloth mat for the living area outside the tent under the awning up tpo the
kitchen. Works a treat and lets all the crud fall through.

Have a look at C GEAR site.
Expensive, but works like they say it does.

Hi Patrol,
I also use standard green shade cloth. Works a treat. Had it cut so that it is slightly bigger than the tent floor - allows a bit of splash protection if it's wet, and easy to peg out the corners.
Had the edges seamed and some eyelets put in to peg it down. Like Dunworkin, also allowed some extra shadecloth at the front of the tent (about 1/2 metre) as a "porch".
Cheers, Mark.
