I have recently purchased a 95 cruiser wagon that has standard tyres and rims. It has a 2 inch lift with OME suspension and I am thinking about going to 33 inch tyres. Wondering what would be the good and bad points in doing so! Any help would be appreciated, thanks.. Thommo

Hi Thommo.

Your gearing will get taller.

This means less low in low range and more fuel consumption.

Unless you really have a desperate need for an extra 25mm under your diff centres, and a slight improvement in ramp over and departure angle (very slight) I wouldn't bother.

The tyres cost more too.

I've had several standard 4wds and for touring there's no need for taller wheels. If you want to go and play hard core then this is just the start of the money pit.

Depends what you are going to use the vehicle for. For the very very few times that those particular 25mm are going to cause you a problem there's always the snatch strap or in my case the winch.

My 2c worth. Save your money and spend it on something else.

You would be only gaining 12.5mm in hieght.
The tyres are 25mm taller, the diffs only go up half way the overall distance.

He's going from 31's to 33's if I'm not mistaken. Therefore 25mm.

If I'm wrong and it's only 12.5mm then there's even less point.

The standard 7.50 16's are close to 32inch.
Slightly smaller than the 235/85 16's

Thommo,
I'm Running BFG A/T's 235/85/16 on standard rims on a 60 series. I note the following.
Good all round performance, good price, don't spray mud up the side and therefore require flares which will get ripped of, can store spare under with minimal risk, tough and hard to stake(60,000 km and no holes yet), standard gearing maintained. Mate this could go on all day and having said all this you may think the big rubber will look tougher and it may well but I always want to get home with minimal fuss so I stick with as close to standard in most things.
Regards
Johnny
