Got a new car with Tekonsha Voyager break controller fitted, with 12pin flat trail plug. (Also provided was a 12pin to 7 pin adaptor.)

Since my van lives some 1 1/2 hours away I decided to plug into my mates van to test the setup , he has a A-Van with 7 pin plug and he currently uses a Tekonsha Progidy unit with the digital display.

Well it didn't seem to work, well the little green light on the unit didn't light up. The other functions of the plug left and right indicators, stop and tail lights all worked.

Took it back to the man who installed the unit who tested it and said everything appeared ok but he couln't test it to the degree the green light would come on so he simply replaced the unit. Back to my mates connected to the van and nothing as before. Surely the commonly used controllers and vans would all appear to be wired to a standard, the 12 to 7 pin adaptor should not have made a difference.

I'm stumped, any ideas?

The next one of those adaptors that I find which is wired incorrectly, won't be the first!!

Might pay to check it... you can open 'em up, and wiring diagrams can be found > here <

Double check that each pin, on the trailer side of the plug, not squeezed together..Explained...... maybe just one loose male/female fitting....the male parts of the pins are usually in 2 halves...

I got caught once, with no brake lights, but everything else worked

You may need to get a small screwdriver, and gently separate each part of the pins a little,,, probably 1mm
..

Bloody hell... sounds like a grade 1 sex education lesson ...hehehehe

Sometimes pin 2 & 5 get reversed (I see this at least once a week). Color coding also seems to be a bit hit and miss. 2 wires need to be correct for elec brakes -

Pin 3, white - earth
Pin 5, blue - magnets

Double check the wiring on your mate's van.
