I was in supercheap the other day and saw a set of plastic type driving lights for $99.
Has anyone bought these? how are they?
Im thinking for $99 how bad can they be....im supertight on budget at the moment so the price seems right and id only expect them to last a couple of years...
I'm not really interested in hearing how much better lightforce are or anything like that....just wanted to know if anyone has tried these lights.

Depends on how good you want them to be. Have a look at on Ebay, can get some good Narva 100w lights for around that price and they really are a good light for there price. Last for years too. I have recently brought just a cheap set of 55w driving lights off Ebay, to be used as work lights they only cost me $55. I have seen a set of the 55w lights that Supa cheap sell and i wouldnt of even used them for work lights. Nowhere near as good as decent headlight globes.

What size are these lights? Supa Cheap aint that bad so could be worth it, but if you can get some small Narvas for same price then i would go for them.

Thanks mate, they must have been 8" across...they were a decent size...I need something for the 80series as the high beam is useless, ive wired up a relay for them so they run directly off the battery but that made little difference.
So i guess im just after something that will give me a high beam thats noticably better than low ;-)

I wouldnt Ive trashed quite a few narvas(at least 4), they just jump out of their sockets as not much holds them in and comit suicide on the road, wont take any kind of corragation/ough road.
I bought a pair of el cheap Trifa lights that lasted

Agree with Krooser, I bought a set of Narva's (7inch 100w blue) from ebay for around $100 and find them great. They have done a recent trip to the cape via OTL and never missed a beat. If you are not keen on ebay keep an eye out for specials at Auto Barn or Auto Pro as they sometimes have them for around the $110-$120.

Dont worry mate, know how ya feel. Have 75 series, lights are worse then 80 series i reckon. I went out and got some Hella H4 headlight inserts and a HID kit. Now its unbelievable, but too bright for oncoming traffic. Need to lower the lights down a fair bit. All up cost about $300, not exactly cheap but i wanted it. But even just buying some new Hella or Narva H4 inserts and putting in some brighter globes you really notice the difference. I am a light freak too, having the Lightforce 240s and Hella Rallye 4000s. But the difference the Hella inserts made with normal H4 globes was excellent, no need to go HID, though it really is a totally different driving experience.

I tried Narvas & couldn't tell if they wre on or off, took them off & now have Cibie Oscars.
But best bang for buck would surely be Night Stalker, also from Supercheap.

I have been very surprised by two sets of driving lights I picked up from KMART!!! Paid around $50 on special and they light up as well as the Cibies on the F350.. no kidding.

Only problem is that the 'chrome' is coming away after a year or so.... who cares.. they're throw aways at that price.

If you hunt around at the local 4x4 dealers you can sometimes pick up stuff that has been removed from ex lease or trade in vehicles. Most upper eschelon dealers want the cars 'clean' on the lot which means that the roof racks, extra spare wheel holders sometimes even bull bars are stripped off and just tossed in a container at the back of a dealership. I have benefited from this MANY times over the years and only recently with a pair of almost new IPF driving lights complete with clear and white plastic covers and a genuine tow bar for my landrover series 2 disco. Normally the currency of choice comes in cans or opaque glass bottles.

Good luck. It never hurts to ask.

I bought a set of Ziel driving lights, about 4 years ago and they're still going strong. Bought them from Repco from memory, and they weren't all that expensive. Replaced two globes over the years but that's about standard I would think. the only other thing is the chrome deteriorating.

I picked a pair of PIAA lights from a wrecking yard.
They were in mint condition and cost me $20 for the pair. Spent a few bucks putting 100w globes in- but still way in front !!!

Hi Nuts,

I used to have an 80 series and found the standard high beam was very poor.
Found a link on a website that provided all the details of a great wiring upgrade. I built it, fitted it and was quite impressed with the result.
Here's the link:
80s wiring upgrade

Good luck,
