Gone Bush (WA)
We are sitting in a caravan
park in
Port Lincoln at the moment, on our way back to
Perth from the Gathering at
Innamincka.
As everyone has said, it was so nice to meet people face to face.
Innamincka was a good location too. We went for a drive out to
the Dig Tree and returned via the “loop” and what fabulous scenery.
Coongie Lake was nice, the track out and back wasn’t.
We came down via the Old Strez and turned at Mt Hopeless to go to
Arkaroola. If this is the same track that Willem says is better than it used to be then I’m glad I never went on it before. Not a nice track at all. Maybe I’m getting soft but I hate corrugations and rocks.
As I said, it was great to meet everybody and if I start mentioning names I’ll forget someone and be embarrassed. We enjoyed everyone’s company.
However, a very special thank you must go to Dave B (NSW) and his wife Nora. What a special couple. As soon as we lobbed in
Broken Hill Dave & Nora looked after us and showed us around. They both have a wealth of local knowledge and we learnt a lot and visited fascinating
places on their recommendation.
We travelled to
Innamincka with them via
Cameron Corner and the
Bore Track. Wonderful travelling companions.
Thanks to Willem and all the contributors and attendees.
Next year in QLD sounds great.
One question……
If a National Gathering was organised in WA, say at Cape LeGrand near
Esperance in Spring would people from the east attend ???

Hi Gone Bush, great to see you had a good time. You sound a bit like my hubby, he hates corrugations, not so bad with rocks but not too big, me I grew up with them all so don't worry me that much.
"If a National Gathering was organised in WA, say at Cape LeGrand near

That would be great for us over here that don't seem to be able to get to the Eastern States ones, it was close for us this year but the timing was not quite right (about three weeks out), what time is it going to be next year?? no matter what State they get held in for a lot of people it will be the cost of fuel that dictates if some could go!!!!!!!!!!!!
You and your family have a safe trip back.
Cheers

Steve,
Maybe if the 2010 National Gathering was posted soon (within the next couple of months) I'd seriously think about it. It wouldn't matter what time of year it was as long as I had more than 12 months to plan for it due to financial constraints.
It was good to meet you both and hope you have a safe return to home.
Cheers Kev

Yep, this people would!!
Spent most of the '70s & '80s working in the area (east of Condingup), our 4 kids all born in
Esperance & started school at Condingup, and No1 son lives in
Perth, so we don't need much of an excuse to "head west" as often as we can;-))

Steven
Where exactly did you find this corrugated road with lots of rocks? Methinks you went another way.
Road I am referring to goes Mt Hopeless t/o to Moolloowatana Stn
then past North Mulga Hsd,
Balcanoona NP HQ.
Wirrealpa,
Blinman, Wilpena. Was cruising on 80kmh(thats fast for a GQ and trailer) with no corrugations in sight. Road used to be slow (2002) between North Mulga and
Balcanoona with severe washouts but the mining activity in the region has seen to the upgraded road.
On your Cape Le Grande venue...yes it will be worth the effort to go that far as it is a most beautiful part of Australia and worth multiple visits
Cheers

We would certainly consider coming depending on availability of leave etc. We too have a son in
Perth and try to get there regularly.

Gone Bush
G'day
Good to meet you both and thanks for the advice given.
My wife and I were planning a trip to
Esperance in the Spring this year but had to cancel. We would most certainly attend a gathering over there next year ,or 2010.
We plan to attend the QLD gathering as
well.
Regards
Jeff.O

Put us down on the list if there is a gathering in WA in 2010, we would love to attend.
We will be there in May, so around that time would suit us anyway.
I hope you enjoyed the
Flinders Ranges.
Thanks for the comments Steven.
G'day to Robyn.

With a bit of luck we will be on the road full time by then and we will be able to attend. Maybe catch up with Dave B and travel with him and Nora.
St George sounds good as
well. Missed out this year but prior commitments came up. (like a 6 week trip to the
Kimberley) Hope everyone had a great time and hope we can catch up with everyone next time.
See you in a couple of weeks Dave B and Nora.
Hayd and Jude.

G'day Gone Bush,
It was a pleasure to briefly meet you at
Innamincka....in hindsight I should have stayed longer and gone straight back south!!! hahaha
We would be interested in a gathering in WA (Esperence) either next year or 2010.
Hopefully by then my ailing super' fund account will have recovered enough to make retirement a viable option.... (sigh)....
Cheers
Roachie
