I have installed my GME radio as per instructions but get a lot of static and a high pitched squeal when receiving a signal. I can't have the volume any higher than about a third or it becomes ear piercing...any advice?

Just wondering if you have one of those electronic rust protection or battery life extender thingies.
Cheers,

I have adjusted the squelch but no difference.

And no rust protection except the good old lanolin

I am going to re-do the antenna connection to see if that is the problem

Hows it going,

I am guessing you have a kit type set up with the coax pre terminated ?

Does your radio have a separate ground or just a negative wire , check your grounds out !

You could get a multi meter and measure resistance from centre to shield - should be very high .

If you have continuity try looking at your connections.

Just reread your response , if you have done the same install in another truck with no problems you could probably rule out routing problems .

Try running the radio with everything else on the truck isolated (pull fuses out for constantly powered accessories), if its still bad its not an interference problem , if it comes good try putting fuses back in till you find whats interfering.

Hope you sort it out.

Glenn.

I guess you had to hook up a PL-259 plug to the aerial lead. In case you weren't sure about how to do it, here are some instructions:

Hey, is it feedback? It may be caused by close proximity of other electronic devises. i.e. stereo speakers, microphone, etc. Not an electronics guru but have installed my fair share if comms over the years. There are lots of things that can cause problems. Check where your wiring (coax) goes. Is it near any vital car electronics???

Good luck.

Ok, good question......coax runs from antenna anlong inside wall of engine bay past my auxillary battery through the firewall and in behind the glovebox. The coax and power wire from the radio do run through the same grommet in the firewall would that cause it?

One thing that may be of concern is if you have an electronic battery monitor near the coax. Not saying it will be a problem, but could be.
